Here are City answers to some of our questions and concerns about the new Greenway.
· Will we get a crosswalk across 112th at 87th? Yes
· Will the speed humps be painted with white chevrons? Yes
· What is the purpose of the painted “bumpout” at NE 95th St? To slow cars down and shorten the crossing for pedestrians…
· Why is there a lane shift at NE 90th St? To minimize the bicycle lane’s conflict with a catch-basin and bus stop.
· Could on street parking be eliminated on the east side of 112th so the bike lane can continue farther? Possibly. The Neighborhood Safety Program is a possible process.
· The speed humps don’t extend into the bike lane, and cars are swerving into the bike lane to avoid the humps. Is there a solution for this? Could the bike lane be bollarded or separated to make it feel safer and to slow cars down? Delineators or extruded curb could provide a physical buffer and prevent cars from swerving around speed cushions. We’d have to request this through next year’s Neighborhood Safety Program.
· Will new Speed Limit signs be flagged? No
· Do bikes have priority on Greenway streets, and if so, could there be signage to that effect? Yes, they do have priority, but this is accomplished by slowing cars down via a lower speed limit and creating narrower lanes. There will be no signage.
