Closures and lane reductions on southbound I-405 in Kirkland and Renton, Aug. 22-25

Summery:

Weekend road work on southbound I-405 in Kirkland and Renton is scheduled from Friday, August 22, to Monday, August 25. The work is for two different construction projects: the I-405/Northeast 85th Street Interchange and the I-405/Renton to Bellevue Widening and Express Toll Lanes projects.

Key closures and lane reductions include:

  - The on-ramp from Northeast 85th Street to southbound I-405 will be closed from 11 p.m. on Friday to 4 a.m. on Monday.

  - One lane of southbound I-405 will be closed between Northeast 70th Place and Northeast 124th Street from 8:30 p.m. on Friday to 4:30 a.m. on Monday.

  - Up to two lanes in the same area will be closed late Saturday night into Sunday morning and late Sunday night into Monday morning.

Drivers should expect delays and plan to travel during off-peak hours or use alternate routes, as detours will likely be congested. The construction schedule depends on the weather and may change.

Closures and lane reductions on southbound I-405 in Kirkland and Renton, Aug. 22-25
Eastside travelers should plan for weekend closures for construction on southbound Interstate 405 in Kirkland and Renton beginning Friday, Aug. 22 to Monday, Aug. 25. Crews will be completing complex construction activities for the:

• I-405/Northeast 85th Street Interchange and Inline BRT Station Project
• I-405/Renton to Bellevue Widening and Express Toll Lanes Project

 

Southbound I-405 in Kirkland

The Northeast 85th Street on-ramp to southbound I-405 will be closed from 11 p.m. Friday, Aug. 22 to 4 a.m. Monday, Aug. 25.

 

Southbound I-405 will be reduced by one lane from Northeast 70th Place to Northeast 124th Street from 8:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 22 to 4:30 a.m. Monday, Aug. 25.

 

Additionally, up to two lanes of southbound I-405 will be reduced from Northeast 70th Place to Northeast 124th Street from:

• 11:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 23 to 5 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 24
• 11:30 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 24 to 4 a.m. Monday, Aug. 25

 

Crews will be completing noise wall demolition, utilities, and paving.

 

Southbound I-405 closed in Renton

Southbound I-405 in Renton will be closed from Sunset Boulevard Northeast/Southport Drive (Exit 5) to State Route 169/Maple Valley Highway (Exit 4) from 11:59 p.m. Friday, Aug. 22 to 4 a.m. Monday, Aug. 25. A signed detour route will be in place.

 

The following on- and off-ramps will be closed:

• Southbound I-405 off-ramp to Northeast Sunset Boulevard
• North Southport Drive on-ramp to southbound I-405

 

Northeast 30th Street on- and off-ramps will also be closed from 9 p.m. Friday, Aug. 22 to 5 a.m. Monday, Aug. 25. Northeast 30th Street will remain open during the closure.

 

Crews will be installing drainage crossings, paving, and implementing a traffic switch.

 

Detour routes cannot accommodate normal traffic volume, so travelers are advised to “know before you go," travel during off-peak hours or, if possible, delay discretionary travel to help minimize backups.

 

Work is dependent on good weather and may be rescheduled. Schedule updates will be available on the project webpages, WSDOT’s Travel Center map, the WSDOT mobile app and by signing up for King County email updates.
