The New Zealand representative at the 16th Pacific Regional
Environment Programme currently underway in Samoa has given details of
new projects underway in Kiribati.
Andrew Bignell from New Zealand's Conservation department says it has
a strong relationship with the Pacific region.
He says its latest work involves eradicating invasive species in
Kiribati.
"Kiribati is declared a very big marine reserve, the third biggest
in the world and some of the jewels of that are around Phoenix
islands, so we have a project wer are getting underway now to actually
contron invasisve species on those islands which would the seabirds
improve population numbers because some of those down at quite low
levels at the moment."
