I have tried all the steps outlined by Jennifer in her reply and unfortunately none of them have resolved the issue. I am unable to watch anything on bbc iplayer without the image flashing black periodically. This ruined the world cup for me and is now ruining Happy Valley!
Hi, yes - I have uninstalled and reinstalled the app on several occasions and nothing works. Every now and again it comes back online and I have to sign in again, it works for a day or so and then the connection error comes back which also means there are issues with casting from my phone.

One suggestion that did work was lowering the resolution in iplayer to standard definition. This stops the flashing for me but as I said in my reply to Iplayer I didn't buy a 4k tv to watch content in standard definition!
There are two ways to use BBC iPlayer on a phone or tablet. For supported devices, we have the BBC iPlayer app, and for most devices, there's also the BBC iPlayer website. You'll need a TV licence and a BBC account, and you'll need to be in the UK to stream our programmes or live channels.
Over the last week I have had no cast icon in the iPlayer app. Been having to cast screen instead, which ain't great when you need to use your phone. On the Google Play page they advise to force stop the app/disconnect and reconnect to wifi, but this does nothing on any of my devices. I fixed my issues by clearing data on the BBC Media Player app then force closing this. After this was complete, I started iPlayer and still no icon. Swiped the iPlayer app from memory, restarted it, and the cast icon has been available since.
There is no option on the phone's iPlayer app. to enable subtitles when casting (no UI element is visible related to subtitles), which 100% wasn't the case about a week ago when we watched something else on iPlayer with subtitles.
BBC iPlayer (stylised as iPLAYER or BBC iPLAYER) is a video on demand service from the BBC. The service is available on a wide range of devices, including mobile phones and tablets, personal computers and smart televisions. iPlayer services delivered to UK-based viewers feature no commercial advertising. The terms BBC iPlayer, iPlayer, and BBC Media Player refer to various methods of viewing or listening to the same content. Viewing or recording live television broadcasts from any UK broadcaster or viewing BBC TV catch-up or BBC TV on-demand programmes in the UK without a TV licence is a criminal offence punishable by 10 years imprisonment.[4]
BBC Radio services delivered via iPlayer were relaunched on 8 October 2012 under the BBC iPlayer Radio brand. The rebranded service offered different functionality from the main iPlayer interface and a BBC iPlayer Radio smartphone app was also launched.[41]
The BBC discontinued the RSS feed for iPlayer TV content in October 2014.[44] This stopped some third-party tools such as the get_iplayer[45] content downloader from working.[46] In March 2016, an unofficial site restored access to this information.[47][48][49]
Soon after the Wii release, several unofficial PlayStation 3 iPlayer proxy sites arose that used JavaScript to replace the UA string. On 2 December 2008, the BBC provided an official iPlayer application widget for the PS3.[119] Shortly after release, the PS3 accounted for 6% of all iPlayer traffic, making it the third most popular platform used to access the service behind personal computers (85%) and mobile phones and iPods (7%).[120] By January 2010, PS3 usage had risen to 8%,[121] and by November 2010, over 6 million people accessed the iPlayer through the PlayStation 3.[122]
On 18 September 2008, the BBC announced that a version will become available to the Nokia N96 mobile phone as a download service to allow viewers to watch programmes even when they are out of reach of Wi-Fi or 3G networks.[160][161] The launch date was set of 1 October 2008.
I can view bbc tv on iplayer out of uk on my pc but i cannot use my Samsung tablet. Any way around this problem?
I know bbc require using android greater than 4.1 which I do but still am not able to connect. Tablet was working on
november but not now. Will I have togive upon my tablet or just use my pc?
Apps like Netflix, Prime Video, and Disney+ are integrated with the new Google TV interface so content from each app appears on the main screen all mixed together. It doesn't look like the new iPlayer app supports this feature, but perhaps it's something that could be added down the line. It looks like the new BBC iPlayer app also integrates with this feature, thankfully, so there's no need to rely on casting from your phone any longer.
Morning of Saturday 21st Aug, my daughter complains that the "iPlayer Kids" app won't open on her android tablet (disaster!) From there, it seems like I'm getting slow or unresponsive performance on some things, but not most things. It's mostly certain apps on Android mobiles/tablets. Switch to 4G and it works immediately however.
I've tested over two android phones, one android tablet, laptops, TVs and PCs and it's only the android apps and google home responses that are affected.
Tested using two different Smart Hub 2s (had a spare from a trial).
Tested with and without Complete WiFi discs connected.
Tested with and without additional wired switches connected (got home wiring to a number of switches in my home).
If it were interference, you'd expect degradation of service on things like netflix and youtube, but they're both fine, whilst the iplayer app is not. On the XBOX app, it specifically the images (which are tiny) that aren't loading, but the rest of the app is fine.
For reference, my main mobile phone is a Samsung Galaxy S9 running Android 10. The tablet is a Samsung Galaxy Tab A (2016) running Android 8.1.0. Both are having problems. There's also a Pixel 2, and another Samsung phone, so all Android, but at least two different versions.
Problems with data/network access on certain apps, across three Android phones and one Android tablet, all different models and at least two or three different versions of Android. Services either fail to load, take a very long time to load (minutes instead of seconds), or partially load (e.g. text but not images). Lots of similar apps (e.g. other video streaming apps) working as normal however.
Hi, on my android phone there is a TV guide but on the streaming stick plus it doesn't exist only search and a to z. There is schedule for each channel but you have to to channels pick one then scroll to the bottom of the screen and it only shows that channels future programs, to look at another channel you go through the same process. Is something wrong and is there a way to get to the guide. Thanks.
Thanks for the reply, as there is no TV guide for UK channels in the store and the iplayer has no guide its a shame that the only way to see what's on for the week is a low tech solution as in buy a magazine. Thanks again.
For information there is a Planet Earth UHD HLG test video on the Beta iplayer which appears to work with the Android TVs. (Tested on my XE9005). Its pretty short but looks amazing. It was playing FA cup test loop video which didn't look as good and kept dropping out.
Funny how some people get all "legal" about things like this. Nowhere does it promise complete compatibility so don't waste your time . I assume you haven't sued your mobile phone company because it's not compatible with everything you try, even everything not even made when the phone came out? You get my point.
Just hours after its iPad counterpart launched, the BBC iPlayer Android application has gone live on the Android Market, giving UK users with Android 2.2-capable smartphones the ability to use the catch-up service and view video on-demand.
That's it! You now have access to hundreds of on demand and live BBC programming on your Android phone completely free :) This article assumes you have already configured the DNS on your Android phone. If you haven't already done this, simply follow our Android setup guide to do so.
A VPN reroutes your internet traffic from your ISP in Bahrain (Internet Service Provider) through a network server. In that way, the data you send out from your computer or smartphone does not reach the website, cloud service, or app from your device IP but the VPN server IP address. The process hides your Bahrain IP address and protects your anonymity on the Internet. Here is the kicker - you can choose the location of the server you are using. It can be in the UK, US, Canada, or any other location the VPN service offers. That is how you can bypass the localisation issue of the BBC iPlayer and enjoy the quality BBC programming from every corner of the world.
Following the initial roll out on 11 devices in September last year and a careful expansion since, the Beeb has now announced that all smartphones and tablets running Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) and above are in on the act.
"We believe that the vast majority of devices will enjoy a great video downloading experience. However, with more than five thousand different phone, phablet and tablet models able to install the BBC iPlayer Android app, there are likely to be a number of devices that exhibit bugs concerning download behaviour, wrote senior product manager David Berlin on the BBC Internet blog."

The Android version of the iPlayer Radio car app can be accessed via the Android Auto app for phones running Android 5.0 or higher, or an Android Auto head unit. If you have an iPhone then you'll have to make sure your car has a built-in CarPlay infotainment system or aftermarket head unit installed.
