As such, no Brave browser review would be complete without comparing it to Chrome. The good news is that Brave offers practically everything Chrome does, with a layer of privacy and ad-blocking on the top. This is, of course, down to the foundational code, although Chrome does outperform Brave in benchmark performance tests.

If the name of the browser did not use a common word like "brave", I'd be all for using the most obvious tag, brave. However, "brave" is a very common word in English and I foresee other packages/libraries/frameworks/etc. using the name, if they haven't already.

Therefore, it is my suggestion to limit the tag to the browser only, using brave-browser, leaving open the possibility of other tags for further creations by Brave Software (e.g., their search engine, their Firewall/VPN service, etc., which may not have programming applicability now, but may in the future).

None of those tags contain the word browser so for consistency, neither should brave. After all if your issue is how do I use any of these browsers, it's off-topic here since you need to be asking a programming question.

The Brave web browser has carved out a niche over the past few years as an alternative to Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, and other mainstream web browsers. Some of that has come from its marketing as a privacy-preserving web browser, and it has also been repeatedly evangelized by cryptocurrency enthusiasts.

Brave Software, the company behind the browser of the same name, was founded by Brendan Eich. He's best known as the creator of JavaScript from his days at Netscape Communications, and he was later the co-founder of Mozilla. He remained at Mozilla Foundation and its for-profit segment, Mozilla Corporation, well into the 2000s. In 2014, he was appointed as CEO of Mozilla Corporation, which immediately caused backlash from at least a few people inside Mozilla and many people outside the organization.

The appointment was a full-on PR disaster for Mozilla, and as an example of how far-reaching the criticism became, OkCupid started showing a popup to its Firefox visitors about the donations and suggested switching to another browser. Brendan Eich quit after 11 days as CEO. He then went on to create Brave Software and obtain $2.5 million in early funding by late 2015, then another $4.5 million by mid-2016.

Ultimately, Brave Browser is the apparatus of an advertising company, a bloated and complicated experience for the average user, and the pet project of the person kicked out of Mozilla for continuing to defend harmful political donations. If you want a privacy-focused web browser, use Firefox or Vivaldi. If you want to support your favorite content creators and publishers, turn on advertisements or support them through the methods they already support (Patreon, Ko-Fi, and so on). Brave Browser is irredeemable, and you should not use it under any circumstances.

Brave has positioned itself as the faster loading browser with better privacy protection than the bulk of its competitors. A core feature of Brave is that it blocks ads by default. Something that originally created quite a stir as many viewed this as a serious threat to content creators. However, this is not entirely the case.

The truth is that some Brave browser users can support content creators even more through the use of the browser. Brave takes a unique approach to content creator compensation. Rewards are accumulated through the Brave Ads network and donations provided by users.Publishers, prior to qualifying for revenue, are required to register with the network and they will earn 55% of the replaced ad revenue.

Brave allows users to support their favorite websites through the use of Basic Attention Tokens (BAT) cryptocurrency. The browser comes with a built-in, loadable wallet for your BAT with the option to allocate a specified amount to whichever sites you wish to support. Users can set a monthly budget that will automatically be distributed to frequently visited sites.

Anyone who uses the Brave browser can earn revenue in BAT by browsing websites that are a part of their publishers program. A user must first activate their BAT wallet and then consent to having standard adverts replaced with anonymous ads from Brave. That user will be paid in BAT at 15% of the total revenue. The amount is determined by how you spend your time on Brave.

Being a privacy focused browser, Brave can be considered far safer than Chrome and Firefox. Not only does is block ads by default, but also trackers and blocking scripts. Brave does everything it can to shield your PC, Laptop or mobile phone against malware & other malicious scripts.

The basic browsing process, though safer than the flagship browser its built on, is still a small step in the right direction. Brave, in an attempt to make their browser even more secure, offers you the ability to open a private window using The Onion Router (TOR).

These days a Dark Mode comes standard on most platforms. The Brave browser is no different in this regard. The damage white light can do to your eyes over time is more than enough reason to enable this mode.
