Bliss decided to write a symphony, but was at first undecided what the theme or character of the work would be. He could not get started for some weeks. One day, by chance, he came across a book on heraldry in which he read of the symbolic meanings attached to certain colours; this gave him the notion of writing a work about colours. He attempted to give each movement a character corresponding to these meanings, but without attempting to depict the colours themselves.[7] Bliss dedicated the symphony to the conductor Adrian Boult.[2]

So you know where the color comes from, but why milk and liquid soap? The main job of dish soap it to go after fat and break it down. Usually the fat is on dishes from the food we eat, but fat is also in whole milk. When you drop the liquid soap onto the tray, it tried to break down the fat in the milk. While this is taking place, the food coloring molecules are moving around, providing an easy way to observe all the invisible activity. As the soap becomes evenly mixed with the milk, you will see that the action slows down and eventually stops.

Hi! I'm trying to color correct a master clip that has been grouped and is already in several sequences on a documentary feature I'm assistant editing, but am having trouble getting those corrections to stick through to all instances of that clip. So far my process has been:

Where do the colors come from? White light is actually composed of colors that may span the whole range of rainbow colors. CDs have very thin layers, not unlike a thin layer of oil on water. When you shine white light on a CD, light is reflected on the surface and also at a layer below the surface. The reflected light is therefore partly from the surface, partly from a layer below the surface. Light has wave properties, one of which is interference - the cancellation or amplification of waves. Interference happens if the distance between the reflecting surfaces is comparable to the wavelength of the light. Waves reflected at different layers can amplify each other, or cancel each other out. That amplification or cancellation depends on the wavelength, in other words the color of the light. At any location of the CD, some colors are cancelled (not there), and others are amplified. That is why you see different colors across the CD.
