Considersplitting long steps (see examples in gallery) into sections for each flight of steps with the landing between each flight as highway=footway as this provides better information for those who might find a long flight of steps too much to climb in one go. Wikipedia Stairs has a good section on terminology of parts of steps and stairs.
Steps outdoors are these days constructed to specific standards (for instance British Standard 5395), and knowing some basics about relevant local standards can assist in collecting information. For instance highway footbridges in the UK have the following limits : risers = 30 cm; number of steps (risers) in a flight
Following examples are with full steps-specific tagging. There are also other tags such as surface=*, lit=* etc not mentioned here. It is also fine to tag just highway=steps and leave detail for others.

We are excited to welcome you to the Crimson Pride! Now that you have been admitted to IU Columbus, it's time to take your next steps. Use the New Student Checklist from your Welcome Packet and steps below to get started.
If you have questions about getting started at IU Columbus or aren't sure what comes next, join us for a webinar on Friday, May 24 at 12PM. We'll walk you through what comes next and answer your questions during a Q&A. Register to receive a Zoom link for the event.
To create your first IU account, you'll need your University ID number, which was included in your letter of admission. You will also need a device to enroll in Two-Step Login with our partner, DUO. This process will take about 15 minutes.
Email is the university's official method of communication. Your professors, academic advisor, and other IU Columbus faculty and staff will send important messages to your IU email address. Now is a good time to start checking it regularly.
If you have taken college courses at another institution or while in high school, you need to request official transcripts be sent to IU Columbus at
IUCO...@indiana.edu. Your academic advisor will need to know your final grade, so wait until after graduation to request your official transcript.
If you have dual credit from an IU campus (either through the IU Columbus Early College program or through the Advanced College Placement program on another IU campus), no action is needed. Those credits are already applied to your transcript.
The ALEKS Math Placement Assessment is a tool to determine your current math level so your academic advisor will know which math course is the best fit for you. It is important to complete an ALEKS Math Placement Assessment before you meet with your advisor, or you will not be able to enroll in a math course.
At IU Columbus, the ALEKS is a proctored assessment taken on campus. Your score is available immediately, so you can schedule your test for the same day as your academic advising appointment. The ALEKS assessment can take between one and three hours, so give yourself plenty of time to achieve your best score.
After you have taken the an assessment, you will have the opportunity to complete online practice modules and take another assessment to attempt a better score. You must complete a full practice module before you can reassess your math placement.
Summer Success is a free program designed to help you improve your ALEKS math placement score by working with an experienced math instructor and student tutor in a small group setting. With an improved score you can potentially test out of lower-level math courses, saving you time and money.
While Summer Success is open to everyone, some students will be required to attend. To determine if Summer Success is required for you, check your Welcome Packet or introductory email from IU Columbus University College, or call
(812) 348-7200.
Once you have completed steps 1-5, you will be ready to meet with your academic advisor and enroll in classes. Your academic advisor will help you choose the classes you need to stay on track for your degree.
Orientation is your official welcome to IU Columbus! This program is a chance to connect with other new students and talk to current students (your Orientation Leaders) about their experiences. You'll get an introduction to the many resources available to you as an IU Columbus student, meet faculty and staff, and take a tour of your new campus. Orientation is required for all new students.
Get a boost on your college career with Early Start! This free program expands on your orientation with so much more.
