Problem: When using google chrome browser (51.0.2704.103) on OSX (10.11.6) I often find myself losing my carefully ordered window placement between my many desktops. This happens if chrome happens to quit, or whenever OSX restarts.OSX tends to remember desktop allocation per application, but all chrome windows get bundled in the same desktop whenever chrome restarts.
For most applications, but not for Chrome, it is enough to open it viaopen -naF "App Name", but for Chrome you must also specify a different--user-data-dir parameter for each instance. You will need as many temporary directories as the number of instancesthat you wish to open.
I have solved this issue by developing a small personal module for Hammerspoon, based on the hs.spaces package, that cycles through every space and stores the windows and their sizes on each space. You can find it in Github.
As jpx_ said, in Windows 8 the default browser becomes Metro. To change your default browser back to IE, open the Start Screen, type "Default," click the "settings" filter on the right, click "Default Programs," on the left hand side of the Default Programs window, select "Internet Explorer" and then select "Set this program as default"
If it doesn't change at this point, go to the three bars at the top right of your Chrome browser and select "Relaunch Chrome from Desktop". This should work now that you're in administrator mode. You can take it one step further and repin the shortcut to your task bar.
Unfortunately his problem is that it won't launch on a netbook because of resolution. So he can't get it on even to change the mode.I have the same problem, and what I do instead of trying to open the browser, i open a page from the history and after it gives you the error and you click OK, it opens in desktop mode.It is annoying but it works. I haven't found the way to set it to desktop mode on default.it used to open in desktop mode from the start page even being the default browser, and one time it asked if i wanted to open in windows 8 mode, i said yes and from that day on i have had that problem.
I have Windows 8, and I was having a SSL connection error problem that kept showing. Well anyway I accidentally clicked "Relaunch Chrome In Windows 8 Mode" and it did it. It got stuck on there, so I went to this site. What I did was click "relaunch on desktop.", but if you want it more specific
purkki is right. The default browser will run in metro and any other browsers will get switched to desktop mode. I choose the option to start Chrome in metro and I no longer had controls or anything in there. I couldn't choose to switch back. So I made IE the default browser and it switched Chrome back for me so it was useable again. You can then choose Chrome as your default again if you so desire and it will stay in desktop mode unless you make the same mistake again with the 'start in windows 8 mode.'
I try to avoid changing the registry as it is way to easy to mess things up there. What I did to fix the problem is reduced the resolution to it's lowest setting, then launched chrome in widows 8 mode. It now showed the 3 lines (menu icon). I clicked on that and hit "re-launch in desktop mode" and viola, back in business.
one thing to note, if I log into the extension with my master password, and then lock the extension through the extension settings I can use windows hello to unlock it, but if I restart my browser, I am back to square one.
Try to reinstall both the browser extension and the desktop app, this seemed to work for me. Chromium (Chrome, Edge tested) browsers seem to now require allowing permissions for the extension to communicate with native apps on your computer.
This worked for me. Not sure if it makes a difference but after uninstalling the chrome extension, I also restarted Windows. Once re-installed, bitwarden seems to be working correctly again. So far, anyway.
It apears that version 1.56.2 of the Bitwarden extension is now rolling out in the Chrome web store, and this updated release fixes many of the problems people are experiencing. If you are having difficulties, removing the extension from Chrome and installing this version may help.
I had same issues just now Decryt and Windows hello freeze. Several version changes look to have occurred over Browser/ Desktop. Edge continued to work but Chrome failed.
Removed extension - closed browser - cleared cache reinstalled version off Bitwarden site. 1.56.1 and Chrome has updated to Version 98.0.4758.82 (Official Build) (64-bit). Also on the PC desktop updated to 1.31.1.
Closing and restarting (clearing) your Chrome after each modification is usually good practice due to caching. Each system fix can have slightly different fixes, but 56.2 and 56.3 may be attempts to solve the mixed version issues occurring. Hope this helps
I need to be able to switch between desktops for my job- in particular, switch between google chrome work spaces. Whenever I attempt to switch desktops, the same google chrome window follows me. How do I get each desktop in Mac to have their own google chrome workspace? I'm also noticing other windows following to other desktops. I feel something in my settings isn't correct on the mac.
My only options are ALL DESKTOPS or NONE. No matter which I'm clicking, it always switches back to one specific google chrome window with all of my work tabs. I'm just trying to have different windows for different projects per desktop. I'm not sure if it would be something in system preferences or what. I'm stumped!
Yes, that article is helpful. However, the issue is when I go to another desktop, and click the google chrome icon, it continuously goes back to a google chrome with a bunch of tabs open. I want to work in SEPARATE google chromes. When I click on the options of the google chrome app, I only have all desktops or NONE as my options. Whether I click one or the other, it continues to do this. Any idea if it is settings on my mac, and not google chrome specifically? Thanks so much.
yes! different apps on different desktops- specifically different chrome windows on different desktops with different tabs in each. I'm sorry I'm obviously ignorant with tech issues! I may not call things the right words haha! Thank you so much for your time and help!
I'm using Chrome Remote Desktop on a Windows Desktop to access an Apple iMac. I cannot figure out how to invoke the Apple Command key function from my Windows keyboard. I would think that the Windows key would work but it doesn't. Is there a way to map the Windows key to the Apple Command key? I really want to be able to invoke copy and paste from the keyboard, which are Command-C and Command-V on the iMac, so I'm stuck because I don't have a "Command" key.
My solution to this problem is to leverage the handy "Configure Key Mapping" command provided by the latest version of Chrome Remote Desktop (v. 77.0 at the time of writing). The option is available in the sidebar as shown below.
Clicking the link opens the "Configure Key Mapping" dialog, from which you can create your own mapping. An important thing to note is that the keycodes supported by Chrome Remote Desktop are not the usual "ASCII" codes to which every developer is used to (I did this error myself the first time); rather, the codes should be taken from the "UI Events KeyboardEvent code Values" W3C standard. If you go through the standard you'll find the useful "List of code values for functional keys in the Alphanumeric section" table, which I also replicate below.
At this point you should be able to use Ctrl-C, Ctrl-V etc. on your local PC to trigger the corresponding Cmd-C, Cmd-V etc. commands in the remote Mac. The solution works quite well for me and it resolves a perennial problem of how to use the Cmd button while on a Windows PC without having to rely on external apps or plugins.
I'm on a Windows 10 machine remoting into an El Capitan Mac (yes, it's an old OS, but it's a 2009 model that can't be upgraded any higher). If the other solutions don't work for you (they didn't for me), you can try adding Mac keyboard shortcuts in Keyboard settings. I use this mac as a home server and only use it via Chrome Remote Desktop, so I am not worried about messing up keyboard shortcuts when using the computer's keyboard directly.
The problem was that when connecting with the Chrome Remote Desktop to a Linux machine, the remapping MetaLeft to ControlLeft did not work. Turned out it's because the macbook remapped the left key to the MetaRight what whatever reason.
I have confirmed, using chrome remote desktop, that search+another_key does the same as CMD+another_key while remote-connected to my mac-book pro over home WiFi. I also noted that if I want to enter two search+another_key presses sequentially, I must release and repress the search key after each instance
If you want to use e.g. WIN-key + C to represent Cmd + C on mac, other than "Configure key mappings" (WIN-key seems mean Cmd on mac by default?), you need to go to full-screen checkbox by the right-side's blue-sliding bar (F11 doesn't work for me).
With every release, Playwright updates the versions of the browsers it supports, so that the latest Playwright would support the latest browsers at any moment. It means that every time you update Playwright, you might need to re-run the install CLI command.
By keeping your Playwright version up to date you will be able to use new features and test your app on the latest browser versions and catch failures before the latest browser version is released to the public.
Playwright can run tests on Chromium, WebKit and Firefox browsers as well as branded browsers such as Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge. It can also run on emulated tablet and mobile devices. See the registry of device parameters for a complete list of selected desktop, tablet and mobile devices.
