Just off the phone with John Curtis, we are looking at our options to sail next weekend...
Mtl would like to host a regatta and we are mostlikely heading to Montreal as they have good ice.

Will keep you posted once we know more.

Should we run the Canadians?

What?
Canada Nationals Regatta
&
Western Regional Regatta
on the same weekend?

It’s going to be a difficult choice.
Drive 4hrs
or drive 20hrs…

Hello All,

Just did a visual check only on the ice in Beaconsfield, as it is still very windy.
The rain , high wind and refreeze may have roughened it from a 10 to an 8, but the plate has not reduced, still huge.
We are hoping to walk it tomorrow morning extensively, possibly even sail it.
Launch sites we are considering are Park St Louis and Centennial Park ( site of the 1995 Worlds and NAs ), both in Beaconsfield.
As to having a formal regatta, genre  Canadians, we prefer the GWC  format, ie scratch racing and tuning, less intimidating for newbies,  as opposed to a regatta which requires a PRO,  at least 4 scorers, a 4x4,  formal registration, trophies,  etc.. etc.

The « Great Eastern Challenge » would be Friday ,Saturday and Sunday, with sailor attendance from New England, Kingston,  Greater  Montreal, etc.
 (Maybe have a « regatta » on Sunday ?)

Will have a more detailed  ice report  after we walk and /or sail  it tomorrow .

Cheers,
André

Western Regionals postponed!

We are all coming to Beaconsfield now. How is the plate and access to it looking?

Looking forward to sailing with you all!!!

Hello all,

Peter, Jean Pierre and I walked the ice, as it was too windy to sail. First from Park St Louis, then from Park Centennial  ( site of the 1995 Worlds ), both in Beaconsfield.
The few cracks we saw are fully navigable

The access to the  big  grade 9.5  plate of ice is shorter and easier from Centennial.
The black  ice is over 5 inches thick, 95% snow free.

If the wind abates, we will sail tomorrow,

See the short video below.

 COME ON DOWN!!!

Cheers,
André

this looks very similar to Hay Bay but we have no cracks.

We will sail Hay bay tomorrow and compare notes in the evening

After extensive verification, we found NO cracks that pose any kind of danger.  All are normal pressure cracks, which we would sail across at speed.
Sure, let’s call each other tomorrow.
