Hi everyone
Here is today's update. Sat Jan 22, 2022
The ice in front of the ramp at our usual launch site is only 2”. Same as yesterday. No gain in thickness. Therefore, the area in front of Leander is not safe. Therefore, I can only recommend we launch from the lagoon beside Macassa Bay Yacht club or the inlet beside the rain tracks. Please note that I have not checked the ice at the Harbour Front Park ramp because that ramp has been plowed full of snow when they cleared the parking lot. Having said that, this ice has been in for a couple of weeks and should be ok. There is a secondary walking ramp just east of the boat launch which could be used but it is narrow. Notwithstanding I am recommending setting up in the Macassa Bay lagoon, we cannot park at the setup site. Fortunately, the main parking site is only 200 meters from the setup site. Drive to the setup site, unload, set up and then park in the parking lot. The parking is free. I should be setting up around 10am.
I did check the ice again today but there was little or no improvement in thickness. Still 4.5” – 5.5” I did get out to the pressure ridge and the new ice is only 1.5” thick. Obviously, it is not safe. Any sailing MUST be kept west of the pier 4 park point. See attached map.
Tonight’s temp is only forecast for -9c. Thus, no new ice for sure. Sunday night is forecast to be -15 so that may form some new ice. Looking ahead, Tuesday and Wednesday nights are both forecast to be -21 and -19 respectively. Hopefully this will help build ice for next weekend. The saving grace is that the temps will not go above freezing for the next 2 weeks so we all need to think “ICE”.

Directions to setup area:
Take Bay St N to
Harbour Front Drive. Turn left onto Harbour Front Dr. At the bottom of Harbour
Front Drive, it veers to the left. You need to veer to the right. Drive 200m
past Macassa Bay Yacht club. Pass through a gate and the set-up area is on your
left. It is snow covered so I hope most of you have 4-wheel drive.
Cheers, Les
Hi Les and all:
I did set up in Macassa Bay this afternoon after talking with Brad Reynolds who just was heading over to check the ice at La Salle Park. Macassa is a pretty nice spot to set up, but as Les says vehicles are not welcome to stay there. I tried to take a little test run just in Macassa Bay but there is water under the snow towards the west side so not much fun there. I’ll be there in the morning.
Kindest Regards,

Hi,
I plan to bring my DN tomorrow (Saturday 29-Jan) at Hamilton. I should be there by noon.
Where would the best launching and sailing area be?
I am not familiar with Hamilton and therefore, I will appreciate accurate directions.
Thanks a lot,
Fernando de Martino
