I just spoke to John Curtis who is on the ice sailing.

He reports the ice conditions to be good.   He said that the ice that we have in the harbour is snow ice which means that if it warmes up, our blades might slip a bit over the top surface.   We will worry about that if it gets to warm.

We plan on doing scrub racing on Saturday and Sunday and all are encouraged to sail around the marks whether or not you are racing.   If you are unfamiliar with sailing around the marks, leave all the marks (BIG RED TALL Marks one to windward and one to leeward) on your port side…rounding counter clockwise will be the flow.   Please don’t cut across the coarse if at all possible.

It is not recommended to go cruising unless you have a proper suit for swimming.   That’s why sailing around the marks will be a safer venture for you.

It would be a good idea to find out all of the obstructions from someone who has sailed the ice before you pull your main sheet in tight and blast over an ice crack.  (Been there…done that)   Just cruise around until you are familiar with the coarse or sailing area.

Below is the fore case for Kingston.    For the Gang from Rochester who are most likely coming up to sail with us…welcome…and 0C = 32 degrees.   My contact info is below.  I will be carrying my phone if you need to get in touch with me but I will not hear it while sailing.

We look forward to seeing you on the ice.

Just as a follow up…please see attached photo JC just took from the ice surface.

He mentioned that the surface does have small drifts no more than 1” in height but most drifts are .5”

Are we going to see anyone from Trenton area this weekend?

Did you get any wind today and was it enough to get going?…they are calling for almost no wind tomorrow (((… I am not sure what to do but start to think that may be Sunday would be a better day if you will be out sailing.

I just looked at Predict Wind forecast and Sunday does look much better.

John, if you get a chance,  can you chime‎ in and describe how your sailing was today. John is moving ( just to let you know) so he may not be able to comment until later.

Gord, good to hear you might be able to make Sunday.   Make sure you bring Peter Aker with you.   Could turn out to be an unofficial Canadian Champs Regatta.
