Thank you Andre for keeping us updated on your ice in Montreal. Jeff and I really enjoyed meeting your group and sailing with you yesterday. It snowed most of the way home but we were happy to finally hit rain in Saratoga. Our Round Lake here did not get any snow and yesterday’s rain turned the surface from a rough 4 to a fast 7.

Looking forward to sailing with you again soon. Please let me know if you would like to join us down here this week.

Sincerely,
Paul Chamberland

Hello Paul,

Enjoyed having you and Jeff join us.
Haven't checked Angell after snowfall but driving back from Thetford Mines, I stopped to look at  Cartier st in Pointe Claire : there is a new, large , snowless plate of  ice on the broad part of Lake st Louis.
Going to check it out tomorrow.

Did you sail Round Lake ?

Cheers,
André

Yes Andre. I have been sailing Round Lake hard for the past 3 days. Sadly the forecast for tonight is 5” of snow. Hopefully this snow doesn’t reach you and Jeff and I can head back your way.

Any ice in Kingston area?

OMG !!!

Nico says access to the beautiful , regatta -size 3 inch thick black ice 10 grade ,  is a bit tricky, with thickness of the old snow ice varying from 5 to 1 3/4 inch. We’ll probably mark the way with cones.
Has to be walked tomorrow, from Parc St Louis or Centennial., Beaconsfield.

Will determine best launch site.

Pte Claire weather forecast for coming week is awesome.

Cheers,

André

Hi All,

Just checked Baie D’urfe ice.  Close to the shore there was about 5 “, especially around drain holes  but as I walked out I was not able to break through even after 8”. Drain holes at the moment have 1.5” of new ice. Most of them are small and not an issue even if sailed over, however I found few bigger once, so the -12C overnight should help making then secure. My plan is  first check the ice around 9:00 am; if drain holes are solid then to bring my boat to baie d’urfe park next to the city hall around  11 am,go do some sailing.  As you can see on the pictures from the wind the top  has orange pill structure , very even, good grip. The dark spots are the drain holes, quite viable even from a distance.
Weather forecast for tomorrow looks good (sunny and 15km/h wind), so if anyone is interested meet me tomorrow.
Please feel free to call me for an update and more details.
Thanks.

 Salut à tous,
Pour votre info. Si Jacek vérifie la glace vers 9 hrs,  et les "drain holes" sont safe  , on devrait tous aller à Baie D'Urfe, vers 11 am.

Jacek, is it not easier to launch at Bertold Park , next to Baie Durfe YC? More parking.

I actually couldn’t find large enough drain hole to be bigger than 5” and I walked half the way from Baie Durfe city hall. All small once are sold with 3-5 “ of ice and they are 4-5” wide. The whole bay is one big plate, no cracks, no pressure edges. Access if from the city hall park would require a plank as there is 4-5 ft thin ice to cross. In Bertold park one can get on ice on the side ( see photo), so I will launch from here around 10-11am.
