Colleagues

Apologies for the wide circulation, but I do not wish to miss anybody out...

You will be aware that the Local Government Boundary Commission has released draft recommendations that Balsall be split into two parts, thus threatening years of regeneration and renewal efforts made by residents, community groups, schools and others.

The Balsall Heath Forum strongly objects to this recommendation.

It has drafted a submission (attached) which says why splitting Balsall Heath is a terrible idea, for example moving the Forum, St. Paul's, the Farm and Balsall Heath Park into Sparkbrook. It would also split the area of the Neighbourhood Development Plan, for which two and a half thousand people voted on at the referendum last year.

The Forum believes that a better solution would be to keep the area whole and join it with Highgate in order to create a Ward with the 'right' number of voters (16,000). They believe that Highgate and Balsall Heath would be a strong Ward, building on many years of shared interests.

Please help us get the message to the Boundary Commission: you have until midnight tonight to go on to their website and tell them that you support the Forum's plans. Making a submission should take no more than five minutes.

You can follow this link to make your submission: https://consultation.lgbce.org.uk/node/add/informed-representation/5688?bbox=380425.5,273559.5,435875.5,303559.5

The Commission will particularly want to hear from people in Balsall Heath & Highgate, but if you are in support of the plans I would urge you to respond. Please share this email with anyone you think would be willing to make a submission.

If you have any queries, please do feel free to drop me a line.

Many thanks

Ian
