Trolls: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack is the soundtrack album to the 2016 DreamWorks Animation film Trolls, released on September 23, 2016 by RCA Records. The soundtrack is produced primarily by singer Justin Timberlake, Max Martin, and Shellback. It features work from Timberlake himself, along with Anna Kendrick, Ron Funches, Zooey Deschanel and Gwen Stefani, who all voice characters in the film, as well as Earth, Wind & Fire and Ariana Grande.[1] The album was certified Platinum in Australia and Double Platinum in the United States. The song "Can't Stop the Feeling!" was nominated for an Academy Award and won a Grammy Award.

After being announced as the voice to the lead character in the musical comedy Trolls opposite Anna Kendrick,[2] Billboard reported that Justin Timberlake also signed on to write and perform original music for the film.[3] Timberlake said in an interview:

By the time Timberlake joined the project, there was still some original music needed to be written for the film. Timberlake planned to cover the disco genre among the variety of pop songs present in the film.[4] For the soundtrack album, Earth, Wind & Fire re-recorded "September" with Timberlake and Kendrick.[5]

The soundtrack peaked at number one on the ARIA Charts,[6] three on the US Billboard 200 album chart, four on the New Zealand Albums Chart,[7] and four on the UK Albums Chart.[8] It received Platinum certifications by the Recording Industry Association of America[9] and the Australian Recording Industry Association,[10] and a Gold certification by the British Phonographic Industry.[11] In the United States, it has sold 573,000 copies by April 2017,[12] and was the year's tenth highest selling album in the country with 522,000 sold throughout 2017.[13]

The lead single, "Can't Stop the Feeling!" performed by Justin Timberlake, was released on May 6, 2016, and reached number one on the official charts of 17 countries, including the US Billboard Hot 100.[14]

"Can't Stop the Feeling!" won the Grammy Award for Best Song Written for Visual Media,[21] and was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Original Song.[22] Timberlake received the Hollywood Song Award for "Can't Stop the Feeling!" at the 2016 Hollywood Film Awards.[23] It was also nominated for the Golden Globe Award for Best Original Song,[24] Critics' Choice Award for Best Song,[25] and Satellite Award for Best Original Song.[26]

The parts of Trolls Band Together with the different animation styles are reminiscent of the groundbreaking sequences in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. The different animation styles really pop and are such a bright spot in the movie. In the film, the Trolls journey through a psychedelic wonderland, a sun-drenched vacation island, and Mount Rageous, each setting infused with its own style.

Beneath the glitter of Trolls Band Together is a message delivered somewhat clumsily about loving your family, loving yourself, and not lying about your past to the important people in your life. And oh, that imprisoning people in a shatter-proof jail is generally a bad idea. The film also dances around having a message about fame, and while that message would have been a good one in what is increasingly and somewhat alarmingly a likes/views-obsessed childhood, it never quite coalesced.

Shows like Bluey and Star Trek: Prodigy have proven that we can create animated content that appeals to both children and adults by focusing on strong storytelling and well-developed characters. The success of the Super Mario Bros. movie this past summer further reinforces this notion.

While some of the jokes in Trolls Band Together are age-appropriate, the inappropriate ones leave a lasting and unpleasant impression, making the film difficult to revisit as a parent. If you have kids, you know they want to watch the same things repeatedly, so a movie not being rewatchable is a big deal. If you have kids under 10, stick to the fantastic and family-friendly soundtrack on Spotify for your Trolls experience.

Friends and family giving mixed reactions to who was right and wrong given said violence and hate ... Not shocking ... Not that any single person I know advocates for white supremacy. At least not overtly and obviously. But, as per my previous post, many people don't know everyday covert racism when they see it.

Those were young white people marching in the name of white supremacy in the pre-party on Friday night. Please, don't sugar coat it. These were not oppressed people marching in the name of hate. This is the new flavor of the KKK: white supremacists and dressed by The Gap... with faces out. They didn't forget their hoods. They just don't care who knows.

That they were young white people, per the pictures, suggests that the work of teaching on racial equality and equity since the Civil War, since Jim Crow, since the Civil Rights Movement isn't done yet.

I have a 5-and-a-half-year-old boy, a 3-year-old girl, and a 7-week-old boy. When the Trolls Movie came out on Netflix a couple of months ago, we queued it up for family movie night as soon as we could.

I thought for a minute about it and put it this way, "Do you know when sometimes you hurt sister real bad, you know you did, and you say you're sorry so loud, so hard, and you get so angry that she won't forgive you?"

The Bergen are the most unhappy people in the world. Their only source of happiness comes from consuming the Trolls - colorful, joyful, musical, if tiny, people who live in the center of their village in a tree cordoned off and locked down. Certain Bergen are given the job of harvesting the Trolls (WHO ARE HANGING FROM THE TREE) during a festival and preparing them to be eaten by the Bergen in order to achieve a few moments of happiness. Gross and totally kid-friendly, right?

At one particular festival, the Bergen are preparing to consume the Trolls, only to find that the Trolls they thought they had secured had escaped through an underground tunnel that dropped them out into the forest after a harrowing run.

The Trolls, these colorfully diverse sentient beings, proceed to host frequent concerts in the forest, celebrating their freedom with the afformentioned soundtrack. Only, they didn't flee far enough from the Bergen ... The entire happiness of Bergen society was built on the consumption of the Trolls. The Head Chef of the Bergen tracks the Trolls down - they were celebrating their freedom a bit too loud - and those that couldn't escape were kidnapped and carried back to town.

The heroes journey begins when the Troll Princess goes back to Bergen Town to liberate her people once again. She eventually does, even enlisting a lower-class Bergen in the jail break before they can be eaten. A moment of illumination happens at the jailbreak, when the Bergen King realizes that true love can lead to happiness all on its own.

And, just like that, like magic, the Trolls and Bergen have a dance party, using the Troll soundtrack. The whole town lights up in color, and the Trolls move back into their tree in the center of Bergen Town. All is well, all is forgiven. The whole movie wraps up in about 2 minutes.

I don't want my kids to think that reconciliation works without repentance. I don't want my kids to think that a history of centuries of oppression doesn't come without generations of reparation. I don't want my kids to subtly learn that the fix to institutional racism should be quick or easy.

Timberlake, also reprising his role as Branch in the sequel, had executive produced the soundtrack as he did with the predecessors. He described to the director Walt Dohrn on how the film should celebrate boy bands as well as making fun slightly. They discussed about including musical numbers of boy bands throughout the decades in an organic manner and make it as a medley which fits in the narrative.

Followed by the reunion of NSYNC at the 2023 MTV Video Music Awards, and after the second trailer's release on September 14, 2023, DreamWorks was announced that they would record a song for the film titled "Better Place" that would become the group's first song in 22 years, since their album Celebrity (2001). The song was released on September 29, which coincided the announcement of the soundtrack. The second single "It Takes Two" performed by Camila Cabello and Anna Kendrick released on October 11.

The top thing that will most likely help the soundtrack perform well is the man behind it. Pop superstar Justin Timberlake is in charge of curating the album, and he is prominently featured on it as well. The minute his name was publicly announced as being connected to this project, interest in it spiked, as Timberlake has maintained an incredibly high profile in the music world for years. Every time he joins a film or lends his signature voice to a song, it immediately does better than it would have otherwise. Timberlake is also in between album cycles right now, so any new tunes with the JT name on them are sure to be welcomed with open arms by his millions of fans around the world.

While Justin Timberlake may be leading the charge when it comes to the Trolls soundtrack, he isn't the only star on the album. In fact, it seems like those in charge of curating the soundtrack and casting for the film specifically went after famous singers, which will seemingly help promote the album and the movie without adding too much to the advertising and marketing budget.

In its runtime of an hour and a half, Trolls Band Together features several memorable tracks that perfectly complement the adventures of its troll characters. Serving as the third installment in the Trolls movie series, Trolls Band Together focuses on Branch and Poppy's pursuit of rescuing Floyd, who gets abducted by Velvet and Veneer. Along the way, they face many challenges and hardships but stop at nothing to save Floyd from a terrible fate.
