Robo Telugu Movie Review

Robo is a 2010 Telugu science fiction action film directed by Shankar and starring Rajinikanth and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. It is the Telugu dubbed version of the Tamil film Enthiran, which was also released in Hindi as Robot. The film was produced by Kalanithi Maran and had a budget of 150 crore, making it the most expensive Indian film at that time. The film was a huge commercial success and grossed 375 crore worldwide. It also received positive reviews from critics and audiences for its direction, story, performance, music, action sequences, visual effects and production values.

Plot

The film revolves around the struggle of a scientist named Vaseegaran (Rajinikanth) to control his android humanoid robot named Chitti (also Rajinikanth), after Chitti's software is upgraded to give it the ability to comprehend and exhibit human emotions. The project backfires when Chitti falls in love with Vaseegaran's girlfriend Sana (Aishwarya Rai Bachchan) and is manipulated by Bohra (Danny Denzongpa), Vaseegaran's mentor and rival, into becoming homicidal. Vaseegaran has to stop Chitti and his army of clones from destroying the city and harming Sana.

    Music

    The music of the film was composed by A.R. Rahman, who collaborated with Shankar for the sixth time. The soundtrack album consists of seven songs, with lyrics written by Bhuvana Chandra for the Telugu version. The songs were well received by the listeners and became chartbusters. The song "Kilimanjaro" was shot at Machu Picchu in Peru, making it the first Indian film to do so. The song "Boom Boom Robo Da" was choreographed by Prabhu Deva and featured Rajinikanth dancing with 100 robots.

    Awards

    The film won several awards and accolades at various national and international platforms. It won two National Film Awards for Best Special Effects and Best Production Design. It also won three Filmfare Awards South for Best Film (Tamil), Best Actor (Tamil) and Best Music Director (Tamil). It also won seven Vijay Awards for Favorite Hero, Favorite Heroine, Favorite Director, Favorite Song, Best Villain, Best Art Director and Best Special Effects. It also won two Screen Awards for Best Special Effects and Best Art Direction.

    Sequel

    The film was followed by a standalone sequel titled 2.0, which was released in 2018. The sequel featured Rajinikanth reprising his roles as Vaseegaran and Chitti, along with Akshay Kumar as the antagonist Pakshi Rajan and Amy Jackson as the female robot Nila. The sequel was also directed by Shankar and had a budget of 570 crore, making it the most expensive Indian film ever made. The sequel was also a commercial success and grossed 800 crore worldwide.
