If you install legacy drivers on Windows 7 or later with Windows Biometric Framework, there is a chance that a future Windows Update could automatically replace the legacy driver with the WBF driver, which could cause your application to not work well. To avoid this possible problem, please be sure to update the SecuGen SDK dll, for example, sgfplib.dll (from FDx SDK Pro).

Hi there! I was experiencing some issues with Windows OS so had to reinstall it. It removed all preinstalled softwares which came with the laptop and it also removed fingerprint scanner drivers. I tried to reinstall the drivers but they are showing error "This is not supported by my OS". Anyone please help me with this

Hi Paul. The driver you linked worked. Thank you very much. I was downloading the drivers via the HP software which used to open whenever I download anything from HP Support. Probably that was causing issues. Thanks again for posting that link!

Does anyone know the name of a software program that will let me use my fingerprint as a password? I recently had to replace the hard drive in my Dell Latitude E5520, and I don't have the drivers and software disks that came with it. I have visited Dell support page and also ran Slim Drivers, but nothing gave me the software I need to actually log in my fingerprint. It has Windows 7 Pro 64-bit, Service pack 1, 4GB RAM, an Intel Core i5-2520M CPU @ 2.50GHz.

I found the self extractor on Dell's website for the bio-metric coprocessor driver to display the error "corrupt". I used 7zip to manually extract the files and then installed the driver using the Device Manager.

I think there are ways of making /usr mutable for development purposes, but that should not be the solution (if possible).
My question is, how I can get support for the fingerprint sensor in Silverblue and can this be made easier for non technical users (maybe installing a single rpm-nonfree driver and call it a day?)

There is indeed, by setting your ostree to livefs. This will work for that one time, then next install it will be overwritten by the new commit. As was suggested, packaging it into an rpm locally can be used to layer it onto the base commit like any other package. It will be there through updates but will not be updated automatically, so you would have to repeat the rpm build process in order to apply any updates to the device support. Did lsusb not see the scanner?

I would recommend either building an RPM package out of the sources like the AUR package is doing or creating an RPM package with the pre-built binaries from Dell. You can then overlay this package with rpm-ostree and this will be permanent comparing to livefs changes.

My laptop is a Lenovo Ideapad s540 and I have installed Ubuntu 22.04.3 in it. My laptop comes with a fingerprint scanner and it was working when I was using Windows, but after shifting to Ubuntu my scanner is not working. I have tried numerous platforms and I didn't get anything specific to my PC.

Unfortunately it looks like that scanner is not supported on Linux. The manufacturer has said they aren't going to provide Linux support (supposedly they said it in this thread, though I haven't paged through to find their response yet: =hot&&page=1), and no-one has successfully written a driver that works. You can see around four years of comments here, for example, where people were discussing efforts but don't seem to have succeeded: -/issues/173

Important: Please ensure your Windows computer is up to date with Windows Updates, as new device drivers may be blocked if you are not current or awaiting a reboot to complete an install. See Windows Settings and Updates for status.

Note: Some domain-joined computers may limit the ability to use PINs or Biometrics as a domain security policy. Speak with your system administrator on opening those permissions to allow the use of the fingerprint reader.

*In Windows 10, the Windows Biometric Framework (WBF) provides support for fingerprint biometric devices through a new set of components. Only use the WBF drivers if your software uses the WBF interface or you want to use the built in biometric logon in Windows 10. Please check with your software vendor for further information.

Goodix Fingerprint sensor not working after windows 10 1903 update on my Dell G3 3579.It worked while installing windows 10 1903 via iso (which failed to update otherwise), windows hello was all good during setup but after first boot then it just stopped working & driver shows error code 31 on device manager.I tried updating everything & also tried reinstalling Goodix fingerprint driver but that didn't work either. The fingerprint worked fine on the previous 1809 update of windows 10.

I did a couple of things with a guy from nearest dell partner who provided me free technical support at their center, He guided me a little and I did a few things on my own. I don't know what fixed it but I'll go on chronologically.

First I downloaded a utility named UsbSafelyRemove and using this I stopped the power to the fingerprint sensor virtually without having to disconnect it, this removed it from devicemanager by preventing it from getting detected for current session. Then I uninstalled the sensor driver software and it was no longer detected aswell. Then I downgraded the bios using Dells Bios Tool, Meanwhile Microsoft or maybe Dell launched an un-logged/unscheduled automatic update and perhaps a possible patch for windows, I don't know if they did it or if it was windows on its own because it wasn't logged. I then restarted the computer, the sensor was detected and appropriate drivers were automatically installed, didn't check for error at this time. Then my antivirus software also found a simple PUP.Optional.OpenCandy malware, which shouldn't likely have any effect. I enabled Microphone for a skype call and just out of the blue the sensor error code 31 which I was checking for frequently, just disappeared. I have now upgraded my bios and the sensor still appears to work. I believe the miracle was due to the windows update most probably, just for reference I was on windows 10v.1909 before and even now, the update was minor a fix perhaps.I still don't know what caused the error 31, & which particular update fixed the conflict, was it dell support software which was continuously on or windows, but I'm pretty sure its fixed. Thanks to all those who helped for your time & support.

So recently I have installed a version of Windows 11 through the Dev channel on both my desktop and my laptop. My laptop (Lenovo IdeaPad 14 15ARE) has a fingerprint reader (ELAN WBF) which I used occasionally. But since I updated the driver through the Lenovo site. That seemed to work, but only after I put the laptop to sleep. When I restart the laptop the option to sign in with my fingerprint seems to be gone...
