I just bought a Samsung 830 SSD Basic (64GB). It seems as if it needs a running Windows OS for firmware updates (seems to rely on an some kind of a Samsung tool). So my question is: Does anyone use a Samsung 830 SSD and know a way to perform a firmware update without using a Win OS?

I think the "Magician Software" that is included with the drive actually allows you to make a bootable DOS usb/cd for firmware upgrades. So I am not entirely sure that you are actually doing it from within windows. The drive that I have there is an update for firmware (I hav the 830 128GB), but it was released in January, and my drive already has it (I think nearly all of them that you are able to buy in the stores do have it).

What is neat is that the firware itself is actually downlaoded as a separate file from the installer (or whatever the hell it actually is). So presumably, you could create your own dos bootable usb, and drop it on there. I am not 100% certain on this, but I had to do something similar to upgrade the bios firmware on my machine.

I think is will come as a simple file of the firmware itself. You may then create a dos bootable usb stick (there is software floating around the interwebs to do this, and it is super simple) and put the utility and firmware on the device. Cold boot from the newly made device. Update.... profit!

The samsung 830 is one of the most reliable drives out there today, it is not as fast as some of the other top tier consumer drives, but it uses syncronous flash and Samsungs own controller. I am not saying the M4 is a bad drive, as it also has synchronous flash and is of great quality. But the samsung is pretty sweet. That said, I also have a Kingston HyperX, and a Mushkin Atlas mSATA, and I have nothing but great thigns to say about both of those as well. Of course the mushkin is mSATA, so intended for that tinly little WWAN slot, though there are adapters for it (and it is only 7 grams).

I am having problems using sketch on a Samsung S6 Lite tablet.

I can use sketch with my finger and it works correctly, but if I use the s-pen it immediately locks the sketch tool and does not work with either finger or pen, it only allows me to exit the sketch option and I can open it immediately. The problem is when I use the pencil.

I have tried removing features from the s-pen in case that is what creates a conflict, but it hasn't changed the results.

Does anyone have an idea what the problem might be?

There are 2 other recent threads here reporting much the same thing, so you're not alone. Just tried this on my S22 Ultra, and it worked. I'm on Evernote v. 10.50.4--what version do you have? Other threads: Samsung S23 Ultra S Pen not working with Sketch; Problem writing with stylus on Samsung TAB S7 on Android 13.

It is fine if I use finger from start, if I use s pen can draw for 2 seconds then it stops. Can erase or highlight & move highlighted area with pen but not draw or highlight. Using version evernote version 10.51, and latest Android version 13.

Im exploring other apps because I need this working, and am experiencing the same issue. I need to reduce my paper footprint, and need notes i take to go right into evernote. Actually evaluating onenote for working functionality.

I have been having this same issue since May. Now it's the end of July. I wish we new if this was going to get fixed, or are we going to have to explore new programs. Over this time period where Evernote is not working. I have been using Microsoft OneNote and I am starting to like this sketching part with the Samsung pen. More I am on it - maybe the more I am able to switch.

I had no choice but to switch to one note. After using evernote for 10 yrs it took a slight adjustment which was annoying but my frustration is over now that my productivity has returned. I mainly use evernote for sketch and photo for my projects. If they fix it I will be back. Oh reminds me I should cancel my service or get a credit right! If there was somone to speak to - how pathetic! 100 million downloads and not a tech expert of customer interface. What's really going on? If evernote is reading this contact me.

Hi, and welcome to the forums. These are basically user-to-user, so it's not likely that Evernote is reading. You can contact support here: -us/requests/new. The billing page in the online account settings has a link at the bottom to cancel: Can't promise how well it works....

For me itsba different issue, whenever I click on insert sketch with my finger or pen on samsung s21 ultra or tab s6 lite, evernote UI just freezes. I am still able to type but no other functionality works.

Let me ask what versions of Evernote and of Android you all have. My S22 Ultra phone now has Android 14, and I just got Evernote v. 10.60. Finger sketching works fine. S Pen does not: it does air sketching, recording every movement I make above the phone onto the sketch. Have you checked for updated app versions?

I can use sketch with my finger and it works correctly, but if I use the s-pen it immediately locks the sketch tool and does not work with either finger or pen, it only allows me to exit the sketch option and I can open it immediately. The problem is when I use the pencil.

I was reading the thread for the desktop version of the automatic encounter counter and there was some demand for an Android version, so I took it upon myself to learn enough Android development to build a companion app for that purpose!

The counter is manually incremented by tapping the main widget area with the counter. It can be moved around the screen with a tap+hold, and a smaller decrement button is present in case you misclick. The widget is dismissed by pressing the close button.

Unfortunately due to limitations of the Android operating system, I currently can't find a way to have the tool update automatically without an extension to the PokeMMO app to support public logging etc. Unlike on PC, Android isolates each application from each other application, so there's no way to view the output of other apps to watch for the start of a battle, nor can you pass through an action to another app without root permission and the app being signed with a cert from the same developer as that of the OS.

In essence, as far as I can tell, it's impossible to automate the updating of the counter. If anyone out there knows enough about Android to prove me wrong, please do and I'll happily extend the tool to support it!

If you think of a feature you'd really like me to add, please let me know and I'll do my best to add it! Similarly, if you encounter a bug, please provide steps for replication and I can fix it as long as I can reproduce it reliably.

I'd love to hear that this tool has been useful for you as well! If you decide to use it and find a shiny, please post a screenshot or DM it to me or mention me in the shiny thread so I can feel like I have caught the shiny vicariously through you :^)

Hi, I don't use the forums regularly anymore. I just tried to download the encounter counter APK from the Mega link I provided whilst logged out of my account, and it works just fine. Not sure what the issue is but I won't update the link unless I know it's not working.
