This resurrected fossil Pokémon is pretty awesome. Big, almost Loch Ness monster esque in its appearance, this Pokémon just looks perpetually cheerful looking and good natured. It also has sails on its head.

Another resurrected fossil Pokémon, this Pokémon could not be more different Aurorus. Where that Pokémon looks cheerful this Pokémon looks permanently bad tempred. A T-Rex figure, this Pokémon brings to mind the terrifying dinosaurs from Jurassic Park. It is not hard to imagine this Pokémon hunting people across jungles and fields.

Questions (but no answers) Earth is obviously very far away from the colonies which are close together. Why. How would they know where Earth was, unless humans evolved on it maybe and founded Kobol? And it was kept as a reference because it is the home world.
Are the 12 colonies each founded by a distinct race, my impression is the 13th tribe is a mix of the other 12 tribes.
AND they do not mention anything of evolution. Do they believe in evolution or not because they have no fossil record and so the Gods are their creators?

Any serious effort to keep global warming below catastrophic levels requires an unprecedented challenge to the fossil fuel industry from the grassroots. It also requires a vision of what the post-fossil future will look like.

Mikela and Voffa Creative Messenger Mikela and Visionary Messenger VoffaVoice actor: Bunko Ogata (Mikela) and Hidenari Ugaki (Voffa)MikelaVoffaClick here to see Dezumovoorla The two most loyal followers of Dezumozorlya, responsible for creating the Trinoids and Giganoids respectively.

  • Asshole Victim: They suffer a lot of things at Killer's hands during his takeover as the Evolian's leader, though they deserve it as they are shameless genocidal maniacs despite their comedic demeanor.
  • Bait the Dog: Throughout the series they appear to genuinely care about Lije beyond her status as Dezumozorlya's host body, even looking and sounding distraught when she seemingly dies from the strain of holding Dezumozorlya in her body (though she was only merely grown into an adult and passed out from the strain of the process before the transformation completed); then in episode 47 when Lijewel begs them to save her from Dezumozorlya they callously dismiss her and happily let Dezumozorlya basically consume everything but her body to arrange his own full resurrection.
  • Co-Dragons: Mikela and Voffa both end up being Dezumozorlya's most loyal followers, while they submit to Lije and later reluctantly to Mikoto/Abarekiller; their true loyalty lies with Dezumozorlya and will choose their God over their other bosses anytime.
  • The Dividual: Besides being seen together most of the time, they were hinted to originally one enity when they were originally amoebic lifeforms.
  • Evil Genius: They're responsible for creating the monsters of the Evoliens. Mikela taking care of the human-sized Trinoids and Voffa of the kaiju-sized Giganoids.
  • Evil Plan: Come up with a lot of this over the series to resurrect Dezumozorlya, but special note goes to Mikela's long-term plan: which was to unleash Dragondoran, the first (actually second after the prototype, Sauneelgingko) Trinoid, into Japan disguised as a charming TV host known as "Master Ran" who would gather humans with his special cards to eventually brainwash them to use as sacrifices and ingredientes for Dezumozorlya's resurrection. If it hadn't been for Abarekiller's turn to good, the Abaranger would've been done for and the plan would've gone off without much problem.
  • From Nobody to Nightmare: Were originally amoebic lifeforms before evolving from being exposed to Dezumozorlya's essence.
  • Fusion Dance: Dezumozorlya (in Jeanne's body) fuses Mikela and Voffa together to create DezumoVoorla.
  • Laughably Evil: Both are extremely goofy characters. A lot of humor is derived from their attempts at one-upping the other, their unfamiliarity with Another Earth and ocasionally screwing themselves over or having their monsters fail miserably.
  • Meaningful Name: Mikela is named after artist Michaelangelo while Voffa is named after composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart
  • Maker of Monsters: They share this role, with Mikela creating Trinoids with drawings that have pigments of an inanimate object, an animal and a plant which he mixes up as a "paint", while Voffa develops Giganoids based on famous symphonies with a macabre piano whose notes form the monster.
  • Not-So-Harmless Villain: They both come as a pair of goofy generals who create silly monsters of the week and can be sidetracked by things such as "schoolgirls", but on occassion their creations have actually proven very dangerous and their later monsters are so powerful that the Abaranger need their full might to overcome them. The two of them even nearly succeeding in manipulating Mikoto in a scheme to merge both halves of Dezumozorlya with Giganoid 11: Inextinguishable.
  • Too Many Mouths: Mikela has two mouths and noses where his eyes should be.
  • Undying Loyalty: They remained loyal to Dezumozorlya even after he fused them into a vessel to inhabit.

The Other Half (Spoiler Character) Dezumozorlya's Another Earth halfDezumozorlya's long-lost Another Earth half, split off from him when the asteroid impacted Earth and divided the planet into two worlds 65 million years ago, it hosted itself inside Mikoto Nakadai and when the Evolien find this out they race to extract this half for the resurrection of Dezumozorlya

  • Deader than Dead: Not only does Mikoto basically purges it from his body, but also exposes it to a lot of Dino Guts that he got from the Abaranger, killing it completely.
  • Good Hurts Evil: Like his other half Dino Guts harm him despite their usually positive effects on living beings, he wounds up outright completely killed by them.
  • Greater-Scope Villain: Hinted to have influence moments of history in its previous human hosts.
  • Pragmatic Villainy: Kept the Dino Minder at bay, saving Mikoto's life inadvertedly multiple times; it wasn't for any altruistic reasons, he was simply trying to preserve his own life.
  • Villainous Breakdown: Spends its last moments vainly screaming for his other half's help in vain and being fully horrified about his incoming death.
  • Walking Spoiler: Everything about it is a massive spoiler, as its existence explains a lot about Nakadai/Abarekiller's life and it becomes the Evolien's top priority to bring about Dezumozorlya's full resurrection.

Trinoid #13: Mukadenpansy Trinoid #13: MukadenpansyA Mukade (Centipede)/Denpa (Radio Waves)/Pansy monster requested by AbareKiller as part of a game sent to make children disobedient rowdy and cruel by giving them telekinetic powers through a special idol song broadcast through a television broadcast after he made a deal with the producers.

  • Actually a Doombot: The first time he's seemingly beaten it turns out that "Mukadenpansy" was just a Zolru in disguise. The real deal was hidden inside of a studio camera.
  • Combat Pragmatist: Attempts to capture KillerOh and AbarenOh by sneaking up on their fight after a delayed resurrection to catch them off-guard, unfortunately for him it fails.
  • Deal with the Devil: Makes one with the producers of the G13 Princess song, giving them world-record breaking ratings in exchange for protection from the Abaranger and allowing his plan to go on.

Giganoid #4: Resurrection Giganoid #4: ResurrectionThe fossils of a dinosaur known as Abaresaurus that was in the process of evolving into a Bakuryuu, and were discovered by an old friend of Suke-san, Mr. Denjiro; Voffa intends for it to develop into the Evolian answer to the heroic Bakuryuu.

  • Attack Its Weak Point: It was fairly powerful and overwhelmed AbarenOh and its weaker formation, AbarenOhji but it had a weakpoint near its neck, which AbarenOh took advantage of, once it stopped fighting when Mr. Denjiro's pleas for it to stop reached it, to finally defeat it.
  • Dem Bones: A monster made out of fossils empowered by Voffa's melody of evil.
  • Healing Factor: Any injury it sustained it regenerated without issue.
  • Tragic Monster: It ultimately is little more than a victim of the Evolians' schemes and it wasn't really pure evil either as it was able to hear and listen to Mr. Denjiro's pleas for it to stop fighting. Even the Bakuryuu were hesitant to fight a would-be ally/fellow dinosaur until it became clear it was turned into an evil monster.
  • Undead Fossils: A skeletical giant monster made form the fossilized bones of a dinosaur that almost evolved into a Bakuryuu.
  • Willfully Weak: It ultimately was only defeated because it stopped fighting altogether due to Denjiro begging it to stop allowing AbarenOh to destroy it in its inert state.

Great review Doug! This is one of my favorite B+B stories from this great period of Haney-Aparo. Wildcat is not a favorite character of mine...except in these Haney stories! Here he seems tough and believable, despite the whiskers and cat-cycle that are absurd anywhere else. The archer is also funny--he's there and he's gone, whabam!

I think the art is special, with a kickass splash page not pictured here, a cool sculpture design by Aparo, and a big knockout punch by Batman near the end. The montage scenes by Aparo, like the "probe into the past" here, look much better in color. I read this series first in the B+W Showcase version, which I loved, but I'm starting to appreciate the color more now. Aparo works very well in B+W, and it's cool that he pencilled, inked and even lettered--it gives the whole thing a distinct Aparo vibe.

Glad you're enjoying the unexpectedness in Haney's stories--me too.

Haney writes Wildcat very well, and I think it's the concentration on Ted Grant, retired boxer that does it. Perhaps Haney identified with these somewhat fringe characters in the DC universe? Wildcat, Plastic Man, Deadman, Kamandi, Metamorpho....
