one file format to another file format (for example, from a SAS data file to a Stata datafile). You can get your own copy of Stat/Transfer at academic pricing. Please see the How to Get Stata page which includes informationabout how to get Stat/Transfer.
Sometimes, you may want to or have to transfer only part of your data setfrom one format to another format instead of the entire one. For example, youhave a data set of hospital patients and you only want to use the subset offemale patients. Other occasions, you have to trim down your data set so tofit in a specific statistical package. For example,LimDep only allows 199 variables.
Notice that on the right hand side, we see all the variables in thedata set. We then go back to the Transfer dialog box and proceed totransfer. At the bottom of the screen shot below, Stat/Transfer tells usthat 109 observations were transferred.
Notice that all the variables are selected by default. We need first toclick the UnSelect All button to unselect the variables and then enterthe variable names that we want to select and then click the Keepbutton shown below.
Returning back to Transfer dialog box, we can do the transfer now byclicking on the Transfer button. Stat/Transfer tells us that 150variables out of 401 have been selected and 1000 observations have beentransferred.
Physician Consultation
A communication specialist in the STAT Transfer Center will locate the appropriate attending physician on call and facilitate a recorded call between the referring and receiving physicians to establish a preliminary clinical picture.
Patient Transport
Use STAT Transfer Center to arrange patient transportation with Lutheran Air or the Lutheran Ground units. The mode of transportation is determined by the referring physician and may be adjusted based upon patient acuity, transport time and distance.
Admission & Registration
A STAT Transfer Center specialist will facilitate the admission and registration process and call to report once a patient has been accepted for transfer by an attending physician with Lutheran Hospital.
Most transfer operations take a few seconds and a few mouse clicks. Of course, you could use other tools to do what Stat/Transfer does, but it would take you hours, days, and even weeks of effort to duplicate what Stat/Transfer does in a few seconds. What is your time worth?
With Stat/Transfer, you can produce just the output you need. It is easy to select variables, cases and data types. A variety of options (all with sensible defaults) allow you to tailor your transfer so that it meets the needs that you have today and in the future.
Stat/Transfer can automatically produce a log documenting your transfer operations. It can also produce a Stat/Transfer command processor file that will enable you to re-run the transfer with just a few clicks. Because this program reflects the entire state of your options settings and all of the other information entered in the user interface, it allows you to thoroughly document your data transfer.
The Ohio State University has established a transfer credit policy which is consistent with the Ohio Articulation and Transfer Policy of the Ohio Department of Higher Education. The statewide policy is designed to facilitate the transfer of students and credits from one college or university to another, assure maximum utilization of prior learning and encourage students to advance as far through the educational system as they can in pursuit of their goals.
Statistics courses taken at other academic institutions are evaluated at the time your transcript is received by the university. If there is an established content equivalent course at The Ohio State University, you will automatically be awarded university credit as a course designated to an Ohio State department and course number, and a specific number of university transfer credits will be awarded. This includes any courses listed under the heading Provisional Credit on your transfer credit report. These courses will automatically transfer once a final grade is received by submission of an official transcript. Students may use Transferology to identify established content equivalent courses.
All requests for transfer credit evaluation must be initiated through this online form. The sections below address the two types of requests we typically receive. They detail the materials and information you will need to complete the online form in each case.
Classes from other academic institutions that do not have an established content equivalent course at Ohio State, as listed on Transferology (see above) or determined in a pre-evaluation (see below), may receive a designation of "General Credit." Such courses are fully acceptable as undergraduate credit. Program advisors may determine if they fulfill degree requirements. Alternatively, student may ask the Statistics Transfer Credit Coordinator to review a "General Credit" course to determine if an exact Ohio State course equivalent exists.
To have statistics transfer credit that has been evaluated as "General Credit" considered for an Ohio State equivalency, complete this online form. Before you begin, make sure you have:
There is no guarantee that you will get credit for the course you wish. No submitted materials will be returned to the student. Requests are accepted throughout the year, and we encourage students to submit their requests as soon as the materials noted above are available. Submissions received after the fourth week of the current term may not be processed before your scheduling window opens for the following term. Submissions received fewer than three full weeks prior to the first day of any term may not be processed before the start of that term. Incomplete requests may result in delay beyond your scheduling window or start of the term. To check the status of your transfer credit, please check your transfer credit report on Buckeye Link.
Ohio State students planning to take statistics courses at other institutions in the United States should first check Transferology to determine if content equivalent Ohio State courses have already been established. If not, students may ask the Statistics Transfer Credit Coordinator to determine if an exact Ohio State course equivalent exists.

If an Ohio State course equivalent is identified in the pre-evaluation, students should submit official transcripts containing the completed course information to Ohio State Undergraduate Admissions ( _credit/index.asp). Upon receipt, Ohio State will automatically award transfer credit for the pre-determined equivalent course. Students typically do not need to submit this course for a second evaluation. To check the status of your transfer credit, please check your transfer credit report on Buckeye Link.
There are no statistics examinations for credit offered at the Testing Center. Credit for many other courses at Ohio State may be earned through examination. Details on examination credit (EM) are available on the Registrar's Testing Center website.
The only examination credit awarded for statistics courses is through the Advanced Placement (AP) Program. Students who have taken the AP Statistics exam earn EM credit based on their score. An AP score of 3 is the equivalent of STAT 1450 and an AP score of 4 or 5 is the equivalent of STAT 2450. These equivalencies will automatically be awarded on receipt of official scores by the Registrar's Office.
To initiate a new request for transfer credit evaluation or pre-evaluation, please complete this online form. Typical response time is within 10 business days.
Stat/Transfer is a utility program that converts data sets from one formatto another (for example SPSS to Stata, or Excel to SAS). It is quick andeasy to use, and available on Winstat, Linstat and in the SSCC computer labs.
Set the Input File Type to the kind of file you have, then click Browse to identify the particular file you want to convert. Set the Output File Type to the kind of file you want. Then click Transfer and Stat/Transfer will convert the file for you.
The file types are mostly self-explanatory. To create an SPSS file set the Output File Type to SPSS Unicode for Windows. In general ASCII/Text - Delimited can only be used to convert text files if they are very structured.
The other tabs are typically not needed. Variables lets you choose which variables are converted, and set their types. Observations lets you convert just a subset of your data. Options has a wide variety of settings for converting various kinds of files. For example, by default Stat/Transfer will stop reading an Excel file if it encounters a blank line (on the assumption that anything after that will be notes or other material other than data) but you can change that behavior by clicking the Options tab and then Worksheets.
The same principle applies in Windows. To get a command line, click the Windows Logo button (Start in older versions of Windows) and then in the Search (Run) box type cmd. In Windows you also have to give the location of the program, and it's best to put file names in quotes (sometimes they're not needed, but often they are). Thus the command becomes:
