Ifyou move from one county to another, you must report your change of address to the county treasurer in your former county of residence within 10 days after your move so your motor vehicle registration information can be forwarded to the county where you now live.
Iowa Code 321.18 and 321.19 allow school districts and government agencies to apply to the Iowa DOT for title and registration of school district- or agency-owned vehicles, and to receive a permanent registration certificate and registration plates for these vehicles without charge.
A vehicle is required to have a manufacturer's label attached to the vehicle, certifying that it meets all the federal safety standards, if the vehicle is to be titled and registered for use on a highway. If there is no manufacturer's label, the vehicle will not be titled or registered in Iowa.
The language found in Iowa Code 321.30(15) reads, "Unless otherwise provided for in this chapter, the department or the county treasurer shall refuse registration and issuance of a certificate of title unless the vehicle bears a manufacturer's label pursuant to 49 C.F.R. pt. 567 certifying that the vehicle meets federal motor vehicle safety standards."

The deadline for registering vehicles is the last working day of the expiration month of the current registration. However, if the registration expiration date occurs on a Saturday, Sunday or legal holiday, the delinquent renewal penalty fee will not be charged until after the next working day.

Hawaii residents on active duty and members of the National Guard and Reserve and who are assigned to units located in Hawaii are exempt from motor vehicle weight taxes for one vehicle registered in their name. Affidavit of Correction (Iowa DOT Form 411219)
Description: This form is used to correct information that has been written in error on a title, application for title, damage disclosure statement, or other document required for title transfer or when these documents contain an alteration or erasure.
Affidavit of Non Use
Description: This form is used if plates have not been surrendered for storage, registration fees have not been paid for more than three years, and the vehicle has not been operated or moved upon the highway during that period of time. If these conditions are met the owner of the vehicle may file a statement of non-use with the County Treasurer and the vehicle may be registered upon payment of the current year registration fee.

Application for Replacement of Iowa Certificate of Title to a Motor Vehicle (Iowa DOT Form 411033)
Description: In order to apply for a replacement title in your county the title must have been issued in your county. If issued in another county you must contact that county. The county of issuance is shown on the title. This form is used to apply for a replacement title if your title has been lost or destroyed.
Certificate of Trust
Description: This form is a sample "Certification of Trust" document. A title application in the name of a trust and the transfer of ownership of a vehicle already titled to a trust are both required to be accompanied by a copy of the entire trust agreement. In lieu of requiring a copy of the entire trust, a "Certification of Trust" can be accepted as well. A "Certification of Trust" is a document that is simply a condensed version of a trust.
Heavy Highway Vehicle Use Tax Return (Internal Revenue Service Form 2290)
Description: Form 2290 from the Internal Revenue Service is used to figure and pay tax due on highway motor vehicles used during the period with taxable gross weight of 55,000 pounds or more. A copy of the submitted form is needed when renewing the registration on your heavy highway vehicle with your county treasurer.
Leased Vehicle Worksheet (Department of Revenue Form 35-050)
Description: The sale or lease price of vehicles subject to registration is exempt from sales tax. These vehicles are subject to a one-time registration fee equal to 5% of the sales or lease price. This one-time registration fee also applies when vehicles are sold between private individuals.
Leased Vehicle Worksheet for Move-Ins (Department of Revenue Form 35-051)
Description: The remaining amount of the lease due at the time a leased vehicle is brought into Iowa is subject to a on-time registration fee equal to 5% of the remaining lease price.
Lost in Mail Form
Description: This form is used by an applicant to certify that a vehicle document sent by the County Treasurer through the United States Postal Service was not received.
Non-Resident Military Personnel
Description: This form is used to certify that an individual registering a vehicle is a nonresident on active duty in the military stationed in Iowa.
Specially Equipped Vehicle Owner's Certification
Description: This form is used to certify that a vehicle has equipment installed to assist a disabled person or a vehicle is used by a person that has a wheelchair as their only means of mobility.
Before operating a motor vehicle on the public highways of New York State you must obtain a certificate of registration and decal for each motor vehicle subject to the highway use tax.

If you only occasionally operate a motor vehicle in New York State, you do not have to register and file HUT returns. Instead, you can get a trip certificate of registration from:
An AFC certificate of registration is required for any truck, trailer, semitrailer, or other attached device transporting automotive fuel and having a gross weight in excess of 18,000 pounds. If a tractor transporting automotive fuel trailers has been issued a HUT certificate of registration, that tractor does not need a separate AFC certificate.
When the unloaded weight method is used, an AFC certificate of registration is required for any truck with an unloaded weight of more than 8,000 pounds.

Order your temporary HUT and AFC credentials online at OSCAR or through a permit service company approved by the Tax Department. Print Form TR-8, Temporary Credential or Receipt of Application, and carry it in the motor vehicle until the Tax Department issues a certificate of registration and decal.
Even if you lease a vehicle from someone else or have control over a vehicle owned by someone else, and the owner (lessor) already has a certificate of registration and decal for the vehicle, you (lessee) may need to get a certificate of registration and decal for that vehicle. The registration is valid only during the term of the lease or agreement.
The Tax Department may require carriers to renew their certificates of registration once a year. At the time of renewal, the department will issue new certificates of registration and decals to replace any outstanding certificates of registration and decals.
If license plate information changes or the gross or unloaded weight of a motor vehicle increases, you must submit the revised information to the Tax Department. When we receive the revised information, we will issue you a new certificate of registration at no charge.
