Asthe title suggests the security check has been sending a 5 digit code to my phone instead of a 6 digit one, which is not accepted. This has rendered my account unable to log in so I can't contact Facebook. Its been like this for months, I was hoping they would fix it but if no-one can tell them about it then they probably don't even know.
Without logging in I can't post in the help section or even send a message about the fault. Creating a fake profile doesn't work either as they close it down the moment I speak of another account. There is no way to pass the security check as even if I prove my identity by changing the password the same screen comes up straight after, also it does this on my phone, tablet and laptop so its not a devise problem.
The problem may be in your phone smart SMS services. Many a time I need to look into the original text of SMS to get the code as my android SMS shows me a card type Message which looks fine but may show wrong code.
The only way I found to bypass the security check was to deliberately disable the account by answering the security check incorrectly (repeatedly). Once the account is disabled you can request it be reopened by sending a photo of your ID. The account has to be disabled before you can do this using the link in the help section
Retrieving a Facebook account is a relatively simple process that involves the use of a code that is sent to your email or phone number to help confirm that you own the account. However, there are cases of Facebook not sending the code due to several reasons. Here is a simple way to fix the issue of Facebook not sending code to email.
Resolving the Facebook code generator not sending SMS is quite an easy process. All you have to do is to turn on Facebook text in your Facebook settings. When that is done, the Facebook code generator not sending SMS will be resolved. Here is how to set up Facebook text:
Facebook typically sends a 6 digit code either to the phone number linked to your Facebook account or to a linked email address. If you are trying to reset a new password or trying to login with a new device and Facebook is not sending the 6 digit code that verifies that you own the account, here is what you should do to resolve Facebook 6 digit code not being received by you.
To set up security measures to make your account more secure, Facebook will suggest you turn on the two steps-authentication. It will request that you choose a method for receiving security codes in case you would like to log into your account with a different device or browser. However, if you add more than two phone numbers or emails, your account will be flagged as suspicious by Facebook, and as such your account can be locked temporarily.
If you notice you are not receiving a Facebook password reset code email in your mailbox, it means that the current email address you are expecting the mail to come through is not linked to your Facebook account. To resolve facebook not sending code to email, you will have to either receive the password reset code via the code generator as outlined above or you receive it via SMS. Here is how to resolve facebook not sending password reset code to email using SMS;
After signing up on Facebook, Facebook sends a code to either your email or phone number so as to verify your account. If you notice Facebook is not sending a confirmation code to your email, all you need to do to get the confirmation code is to
Facebook usually resets the password by sending either a reset password link to an email address or a reset password code to the phone number. I decided to write an article at an attempt to gain some visibility to an ongoing problem myself and so many other Facebook Users and Facebook Advertisers have been experiencing for months and possibly years. Over the last few months it has been eye opening as to how a company as large as Facebook can be so blind as to the way they are treating their advertisers. Also, it amazes me how immature their development cycle and testing process must be to miss so many blatant requirements regarding the login user journey's.
My issue began in mid August after I upgraded to a new Samsung Phone. I have been a Facebook user for at least 16 years and a small business advertiser on Facebook for 5 years. I had secured my account using Two Factor Authentication and the method I used was Google Authenticator. Unfortunately, when I set up the authenticator app years ago I either didn't save the backup keys or I misplaced them at some point. On my new phone I never attempted to login to Facebook or install the app because I conducted most of my business on my desktop computer. About a week later, my login credentials on my browser expired.
When I attempted to login, I was prompted for the 6-digit login code from my 2FA Authenticator App. I had used Samsung utilities to transfer my apps from the old phone to the new phone and what I didn't realize was that during that process, it had wiped all of the authentication keys for Facebook and numerous other SAAS based platforms I used including GitLab, Zoho, Microsoft, etc. For all of the other software solution platforms, I was able to resolve my problem in minutes using self-service methods provided by those providers. Facebook on the other hand, did not have a solution that could be done in minutes nor was it effective. I was now officially Locked Out of my Facebook Account and my Ads Manager Account. Note: I had active ads running on Facebook which I could not manage or cancel at this time.
Over the next 2 months, I learned a lot about Facebook Support including: There is no number you call to talk to a live person, there is no chat or method to get support WITHOUT being logged into your Facebook account. You are 100% on the outside looking in. I also learned that the account recovery process will not disable 2FA. The only pathway that Facebook provides to regain access to an account is an Identity Verification Process. This was my only option so I proceeded to verify my identity.
No real explanation as to why the ID was rejected. So I read the recommended article and tried to follow all the directions to make sure all four corners of the ID were visible, that it was a valid form of ID on the list, and that the picture was clear. I resubmitted my Drivers License and 7-10 days later it was rejected again. I then tried to submit a photo of my valid US Passport. After continuing this process multiple times and waiting 7-10 days each time for a response, I finally received a successful confirmation with a link to complete the account recovery process shown below.
In this email you can see a one time use link which when I clicked on the link it allowed me access to my Facebook account in the browser. However, as the message states, 2FA is still enabled and I need to go to the settings to modify/update the 2FA settings.
Now it was at this point that I thought my issue was resolved and I had now regained access and control of my account. I then promptly went to LinkedIn and posted a reply on one of the active threads related to my login issues. The next morning I got a reply from someone asking if I had access to my Ads Manager account and that is when I realized that my issue had not actually been resolved. I clicked on the Facebook Ads Manager link and was quickly prompted to supply my 6-digit login code which I still did not have.
Since I still don't have my Google Authenticator and I can't provide a valid code I am still locked out of Ads Manager and more importantly I can't update the 2FA settings. Hey, but good news, I can follow the link to "Need another way to authenticate?" and start the ID Verification process again.
So as of today my current status with my Facebook Login is: 1. I am temporarily logged in on a single browser. 2. I can't change 2FA 3. I can't login on any other device Including my phone. Also, phone app has no ID verification pathway. 4. It is only a matter of time before I get bumped off the browser again and have to start over.
I have worked in the Software Development industry for over 20 years and I have worked with numerous Business Analysts, Product Managers, Solutions Architects, and Business Stakeholders, but I have never seen or experienced a company who has so blatantly missed the mark when it comes to delivering support and effective functionality of the most critical mechanism of Login. There are so many simple solutions to these problems and these are user journeys that should be documented and pathways that Facebook should be testing and these issues never should have been allowed to happen in the first place.
A simple search on google regarding Facebook login issues or locked out 2FA will result in hundreds and thousands of people facing the same issues for months or in some cases years. Many people simply abandon their Facebook and Instagram accounts. Since I started experiencing this issue it is amazing how many actual friends I have that told me that they left the platform due to similar experiences.
The only problem is that I am a small business owner that depends on Facebook's marketing platform in order to sell my products and services. I don't have the option to abandon Facebook like so many of my friends have, because my employees depend on me marketing my business and getting guests to visit my park so that I can continue to employ them.
If you are a Facebook employee, please take note and share this with someone that might be able to address the issues. If you are reading this and you are currently in the same situation as myself, know that I feel your pain and frustration. Please follow me and this article and I will try to provide updates if I make any progress.
