Jason Bayani made his national mark in Slam as a member of the 2002 San Jose Slam Team that made it to the semifinals stage. He is also a member of the Asian American collective, Proletariat Bronze. You can see him in the hip-hop documentary "Soundz of Spirit". His work exhibits a punishingly honest sensitivity, biting social commentary, and even side-splitting humor. In addition to being an accomplished poet, Jason Bayani majored in Theatre Arts and has seen two of his plays, "Pasyon" and "The Groove" enjoy successful runs at Bindlestiff Studio and the Mission Cultural Center respectively. As an actor, he drew glowing reviews for his work as George in Edward Albee's "Whose Afraid of Virginia Woolf" and Zach in Athol Fugard's "Blood Knot". Jason spends his time as a counselor for homeless youth in the Tenderloin District of San Francisco but still manages to make time to teach workshops on poetry and spoken word at various Bay Area public schools.
Kat Sanford was a member of the 2003 Berkeley/SF Unified "B" team, has toured extensively in the southwestern end of the country, and coached the Palo Alto team to 23rd in the nation in 2004. She is the author of three self-published books and was featured in the double CD for the 2004 Palo Alto slam team. But, most importantly, she invaded the UCSC slam last week and kicked ass.
