THE KINETIC POETICS PROJECT FESTIVAL
FEBRUARY 3RD-7TH AT THE PORTER DINING HALL AND COWELL FIRESIDE LOUNGE
FIRST FOUR NIGHTS: PORTER @ 8PM
OPEN MIC FRIDAY: COWELL FIRESIDE @ 8:30 PM
Donations of $3-$7 are encouraged but no one will be turned away due to lack of funds.
People of the land!
We have an exciting, ridiculous, and altogether wonderful five-day event for you to attend. Yes, you.
This event would make my goldfish jump out of its Kresge bowl to come all the way to the Porter Dining Hall... alas, I have no goldfish, but I do have a deep love for spoken word, and that's what we're bringing to campus.
As Kevin Holmes says, UCSC is the "national epicenter" of spoken word festivals. Consider this the mecca to which all poetry lovers, readers, writers, etc will flock to.
Let me break it down for you. Hopefully we'll see you every night, but read it over, let this madness make sense to you!
!!ALL EVENTS AT PORTER DINING HALL AT 8 PM, excepting 3/7's Open Mic, which is back at COWELL FIRESIDE at 8:30 PM.!!
SOAR sponsored and accessible.
FEBRUARY 3rd:
LAST CHANCE OPEN SLAM. All UCSC staff, faculty, and most importantly, students, are eligible to recite on the mic for a chance into semi's. Top 2 poets advance.
MIGHTY MIKE MCGEE and ANIS MOJGANI perform. A ruling duo.
FEBRUARY 4th:
SLAM SEMI-FINALS. Watch the best of many months of friendly campus slam competition come down to the wire as poets lyrically battle to make it onto the UCSC Nationals Team.
AMMO, from UPenn, performs. They are sensitive and ruthless. An iron butterfly. And they're college students too!
FEBRUARY 5th:
RAINBOW RAINBOW!! A Rainbow Theater Poets' Corner showcase. These cats might seem like the misfits of all things stagelike but.. believe me, they have their shit together and come to our stage for an encore of Poets' Corner.
KATIE WIRSING and ANDREA GIBSON perform. These women are so talented. You don't understand... yet.
FEBRUARY 6th:
SLAM FINALS (HOLY FLYING FUCK)
TOP EIGHT FROM SEMIS COMPETE FOR 4 TEAM SPOTS TO ALBUQUERQUE!
Featuring... drumroll, please...
SAUL WILLIAMS- world renowned author, actor, emcee, poet, and all-around lyricist to be reckoned with. If you haven't heard Telegram to Hip Hop live yet, you won't want to miss this.
FEBRUARY 7th:
WORKSHOPS AND OPEN MIC
After nearly a week of poets duking it out, it's your turn. Sweet, awesome, and very different workshops run by our feature poets and Bay Area legends alike. Watch for David Perez, Katie & Andrea, and more.
Culminates in an OPEN MIC at Cowell Fireside! Our Cowell!
