Kinetic Poetics Presents:
A Workshop on Line Breaks with Dana A. Campbell, creative writing student, KPP member, and published poet.
3-5pm in Oakes Mural Room
April 10, 2008

Have great stage presence, but having a problem getting that same effect on the page?  Not sure how to cut a line in order to emphasize the word you want?  Confused about the difference between end-stopped lines and enjambed lines?  Want to internalize rhyme in order to make your poetry have less of a sing-song quality?  Then this workshop is for you.  Come study line breaks in a no-pressure atmosphere.  Learn about how breaking a line in different places can change the meaning of your poem.

If you plan on attending this workshop it is recommended that you bring a piece of unbroken prose with you such as an essay, a textbook, a novel, a newspaper, etc. Extras will be provided by the instructor if you are unable to obtain such materials.

SOAR wishes to make all KPP events accessible to those with disabilities. If you have accessibility issues please call SOAR 459-2934.

=====POETRY SLAM=====

POETRY SLAM feat. KIM JOHNSON
Thursday, April 10, @ The Cowell Fireside Lounge
8:30 sign up / 9:00PM show (get there early!)
donations requested (no one turned away)

Greetings, salutations, and welcome to the spring quarter. Tomorrow's feature is Kim Johnson, whose feet-on-the-ground head-in-the-clouds surrealism will leave you in a joyous weeping heap. I promise. Everyone I know is grumbling that they only got a week between quarters but, hey, forget about school! Come listen to poetry! Hell, come read poetry!

AS some of you might know, last week our very own slam team went to Albuquerque, New Mexico, to compete in the National Collegiate Poetry Slam. Their first place finish in the first bout was, unfortunately, not enough to propel them to the finals stage, but the team performed beautifully. The team didn't leave, though, without some recognition. Kevin Holmes and Bryan Gigantino's group poem "Titanium Pussy" was voted "best comedic piece" AND "best group piece" in the whole competition. Titanium pussy, indeed.

See you at the slam!

PS. check out some youtube videos from the KPP festival finals this year:

PPS. Due to the upcoming renovation of Cowell College, the slam will have a new venue come May. Stay tuned!

PPPS. KPP heartz you
