Hi everyone,

If you recall, I had had a problem with horizontal lines running across the Kindle screen. After leaving my details in the Amazon support email page couple times, I finally called their international support center number +12069220844

It was a US call center (at least the accent did not seem desi and the CSR frankly confessed she could not pronounce either my name or my address). After I informed her of my problem, she asked me to try the "Slide and hold the on/off button for 15 seconds" thing. When I said I had tried it and the lines are still there, she said they would replace my Kindle.

And here's the thing. I had expected that,

a) I would have to send the current Kindle to some US address. No, I do not have to. Amazon do not require their customers in "Other" locations to send it back. Too much hassle.

b) I would have to bear the shipping costs of new Kindle since I had got it as a gift and the original purchase was done in the US. No, I do not have to.

So in effect I will now have 2 Kindles.

Hi,
Same is the case with me. I got a replacement in March without having to send the original kindle back. I had issues with navigation buttons on the right hand side. The customer service is very supportive. Its sad that they don't have toll free number for India. Calling up them can be a very costly proposition. I blew a hole in my pocket trying to call them from my mobile. After that I resorted to Skype and it just amounted to 40 cents for 17 minutes. Pretty cheap.

Regards,
Harish

Hi Vivek,

The calls are routed to a customer service center in US. And they have a tough time understanding our names. After my intial experience with the CS I switched my kindle email ID to a neutral name like 'KindleGuyIndia'.

Nevertheless the name issue would crop up again during the confirmation of billing address. But by then, the CS would have your name pulled out from your account information, that would serve them as a visual/phonetic cue. Overall the call experience with them is very good. And the heartening fact is that they trust us implicitly, when it comes to replacing kindle. They don't seek the original kindle back.
Have a nice time!

Regards,
Harish

Hi Harish,

Ah, good to know another has had the same experience. I agree that while they are clueless on names, the overall customer experience is positive. I used my cell to make the call, would have used Skype, somehow I thought that Skype for US numbers was no longer a free option.

I should get the replacement around 5th March.

Cheers

Vivek

Where are you located in India?

I have a Kindle in which the 5-way key need replacing. Considering that you have an extra dysfuntional kindle, would you mind giving me that?

Thanks
