In 1930, 269 radio stations operated in the country, growing to 20,409 by 1932. Radio began to play a role in development culture. In 1936, as a result of the launch of a 35-kilowatt radio station, transmissions of Azerbaijani radio were heard in the Caucasus, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan and on the east coast of the Black Sea.

At the end of 1940, the number of radio stations in the country reached 51,000. Local radio programs were established in 32 districts. In 1941, radio broadcasts were broadcast in Turkey and Iran. In July 1941, Azerbaijani radio created programs in Turkish and Persian. Adil Efendiyev headed the editorial programs in Turkish, while Ghulam Mammadli was responsible for broadcasting in Persian.

RFE/RL was founded in 1949 by the United States government to broadcast news content via radio in Eastern European languages across Europe. Since the fall of the Soviet Union, the media organization has operated as an independent entity but with oversight and funding from the U.S. government. The annual budget of the media house exceeds 124 000 000 USD (2021).

The Azerbaijan Ministry of Digital Development and Transport reports that the "Action Plan for the introduction and development of digital radio broadcasting in the territory of the Republic of Azerbaijan" was approved by the Order No. 818s of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Azerbaijan dated 7 October 2023. From August 26, 2019, a test broadcast of DAB+ standard digital radio is being carried out in Baku city and the Absheron peninsula. As a result of the implementation of the approved Action Plan, it is planned that by 2026, about 70 percent of the republic's cities and regional centres, as well as highways, and 99.6 percent of the country's territory will be covered by digital radio broadcasting. At the end of this process, a full transition to digital radio broadcasting will be provided in the country.

Representatives from network operator Teleradio PU and the Azerbaijan Automobile Dealers Association (AADA) held meetings in July 2020 to discuss how to ensure that DAB+ digital radio is included as standard in all new cars imported and sold in Azerbaijan. They also considered how to promote the benefits of DAB+ in the car to radio listeners.

AADA agreed to carry out a review of the current radio landscape in Azerbaijan, with particular focus on DAB+, and to include market research to understand more fully the perceptions and needs of both drivers and car dealers in relation to radio. Teleradio PU committed to providing financial support for the launch of consumer marketing campaigns aimed at raising driver awareness of DAB+ digital radio.

Three new organisations have joined WorldDAB since May 2020. They are Malta's network operator Digi B Network Ltd., Chinese receiver manufacturer Hidaka Corporation and Azerbaijan's network operator Radio-Television Broadcasting and Satellite Communications Production Unity (Teleradio PU). WorldDAB now has a total of 106 members from 32 countries.

The purpose of public TV and radio broadcasting - to prepare reliable on content, the balanced information aimed at providing common interests of the population of the Azerbaijan Republic - society in general, and also its separate layers in social, scientific, educational, cultural, entertaining and other spheres, on reflection of freedom of thought and the word, different views and beliefs, distribution of this information according to modern technical standards and the quality standards.

2.1. The legislation of the Azerbaijan Republic on public TV and radio broadcasting consists of the Constitution of the Azerbaijan Republic, this Law, other regulatory legal acts prepared according to requirements of this Law.

4.8. The company of public TV and radio broadcasting founded according to this Law, the Laws of the Azerbaijan Republic "About mass media" "About TV and radio broadcasting" and requirements of this Law, performs activities on the basis of the Charter approved by Council of broadcasting.

Araz Teleradio is registered at the same address as all other companies related to the Hasanov family. At the opening ceremony for one of the Araz FM studios in Park Bulvar shopping mall, Shamkhal Hasanli was presented as the general director of the radio and cut the ribbons.

ASAN Radio is a public radio station, which broadcasts on 100 FM. This radio station is part of the State Agency for Public Service and Social Innovations under the President of Azerbaijan and concentrates on awareness-raising programmes.

The State Security Service of Azerbaijan (SSS) is investigatingthe facts of creation by illegal Armenian armed formations in theGarabagh region of Azerbaijan of radio interference with navigationsystems of civil aircraft of foreign airlines and AzerbaijanAirlines CJSC flying using the airspace of the country. Thisinformation was disseminated by the SGB press service,Azernews reports.

It is noted that during 2021-2023 the activation of the use ofsuch radio interference was accompanied by interruption ofreception of signals of global navigation satellite systems byradar stations located near these territories, creation ofobstacles for reception of signals, as well as loss of navigationsignals on civil aircrafts flying over the Garabagh region, andthus numerous criminal facts were recorded, which could lead totemporary loss of control of aircrafts and aircraft crashes.
