Hi everyone,

Just thought I'd share this FS call from Myotis macropus. I don't look at a lot of calls in FS. Just wondering if anyone has any ideas what the fainter pulses (50-95 kHz) are between the 40 ms and 110 ms marks in the attached screenshot? The .wav file is too large to attach.

Cheers,

Leroy.

Hi Leroy,
Im not sure if the call is displayed in real time?  The quieter pulses appear very much like another bat,  they dont appear to synchronise in time, shape, or frequency,   so they're not echoes.  They also dont appear to be recorder issues like aliasing
So I'd say another, quieter bat. Because the call is quieter its probably further away from the detector and elements might be missing (especially higher frequencies which will have attenuated).

Closer look,  there do appear to be echoes at 95ms and from 130ms beyond.

Thanks Michael for the feedback. The call was displayed in compressed mode. In real time (attached), the fainter pulses look like they're present from search phase through to a feeding buzz.

Aaaah!  real time - that's more like it.
My big tip for call analysis- if any questions look in real time.
I withdraw my previous assessment - and offer this one- the pulses look like echoes to me - in compressed time the lower frequency component has been clipped by the next pulse.
But in real time you can see they closely match the timing of each pulse.
The higher max frequency recorded may actually 2nd harmonic 45khz H1 90khz H2

Thanks Kyle and Stefan.

Yes, the calls were recorded with a Pettersson M500. Very happy with how it works. Just wish it could connect directly to a device without a cable.

Cheers,

Leroy.
