Hi everyone. Could I trouble you for some advice on some South
Australian recordings. I have struggled to find any available information
on South Australian bat calls so I am largely using the NSW guide.
First calls, frequency around 46 kHz come from Willow Springs in the
Flinders Ranges:
Shortlist at that frequency in that location seems to be Ch. morio,
Vespadelus baverstocki and Vespadelus regulus. (Vespadelus finlaysoni
would be higher, yes?) No sign of alternation, so rules out Ch.
morio. Can baverstocki and regulus be separated in SA?
Second call is around 27 kHz and also from Willow Springs:
Options here seem to be Ch gouldi, Mormopterus planiceps and petersi and
Scotorepens balstoni. Ch gouldi can be ruled out by the harmonics (and no
alternation). Am I right in thinking petersi would all be flatter, and the
combination of steeper and flatter tends towards planiceps rather than S.
balstoni?
Final one I would like a second opinion on is this one from Clare:
If I just had the bottom row I’d say clearly Ch gouldi with the alternation
around 27-29 kHz. But all the information I have says gouldi never shows
harmonics. Or is that only the case if you are looking at zero crossing
recordings? This is all rather new and confusing for me.
Thanks
