Prepriced Usage Records

Hi All,

We have the following scenario:  An external metering and rating system calculates usage items ready for insertion into Kill Bill against an active subscription.

Question:

1. How should we best configure/extend/enhance Kill Bill to enable this functionality.

The objective is to get these priced usage records to appear as invoice items as part of the monthly billing cycle?

Hi Reshma,

We would like to accept pre-priced usage records coming in during a billing cycle and appear on invoices as separate invoice items. Currently only unrated usage records can be recorded. These raw usages are then priced and converted into invoice items based on the rates defined in the catalogue rate cards. Pricing models are restricted to top tier or all_tier policies. Extending the usage API to accept pre-priced usage records from upstream metering and rating systems would be very useful.

External charges are typically used to record products and services not defined in the catalogue. Kill Bill produces separate invoices for these.

Hi Shaun,

Could you please elaborate on what you mean by "pre-priced usage records"? Do you mean to say that you have usage records whose price is already calculated (as against raw usage items for which the price is calculated based on the usage rules in the catalog) and you would like to create invoice items corresponding to such usages?

Can you please help me out setting up a catalog based on usage. Means for 10 unit consumption amount 5 to be charged.

Yes prices are calculated for usage records. We would like to create invoice items for pre priced usage records.

I will create a ticket for this in github.
