Hey, fellow Kidical Mass fans and organizers--

I run the Washington, DC Kidical Mass ride and I was hoping to connect
with other Kidical Mass leaders around the country for suggestions,
ideas, moral support, etc. Is anyone else interested in using the
Google group for occasional national discussions?

Let me know!

Thanks,
Brad

Yes, I think it's a great idea!

I should have a post up later today on our first Kidical Mass Camping trip at http://www.eugenesrts.org and some photos on the Flickr pool later today or tomorrow (there are 2 up there now): http://www.flickr.com/groups/kidicalmass/

I'm interested, too. We've just started a ride up in Portland, Maine. We've had two so far with nice turn outs for both. The first was very short (1.5 miles) b/c it centered on a proposed bike boulevard (Neighborhood Byway in Portland, Maine speak). Plus, it was also our first and we didn't want to be over-ambitious. The second was a little longer (2.5 miles) but it still felt a little short.
We have a lot of elementary school aged kids and we want to be inclusive. The roads around here a relatively flat so I think we could lengthen our rides out a bit but don't want to push our luck and lose the non-hard core folks.
How long are the other rides out there? What's your strategy in picking a route?
Thanks
-Derek

I too would like to see this list active.  I'm interested in starting a kidical mass in Philadelphia and would love to talk to folks about a variety of logistical matters.

I'd love to be in touch with y'all about strategy, activities, etc.  Shane's camping expedition in Eugene this past weekend is positively inspiring.

I'm Katie Proctor, I've been running Kidical Mass in Portland, OR since October of last year.

Weekend before last we had a Kidical Mass hoedown-- I got some funds together from local donors to hire a square dance caller and a couple of musicians, we decorated a friend's big backyard with straw bales and quilts, and danced for about an hour in the middle of our bike ride.  It rained, sadly, so our turnout was smaller than I'd hoped.  But still, a good time.

But I'm 39 weeks pregnant, and still haven't planned next month's ride (we go the third Saturday of the month unless something really special knocks us off schedule).  I need something low-impact that I can pass off to someone else if I'm still not in riding shape post-partum.  Ideas for something fun and easy?  What's been working for you guys?

Thanks for getting the ball rolling!

Cheers,
Katie
