I once worked on a Large Burnt out 3 Phase Motor which was used for pumping sugar from the delivery Road Tanker Lorry into a Sugar Storage Tower Silo. My boss told me the windings were unusual because they were of a STAR STAR DELTA configuration ?

I think In the actual built circuit shown as picture posted, the star contactor is connected to the thermal overload terminal from motor side, which is more safety may be, not from delta contactor side as shown in power circuit diagram.

Mohammad Khalid,
1.Current flowing through star contactor is very very less than the delta contactor.
2. Star contactor is working only for some seconds and after that Delta contactor will work continuesly.
Therefore thermal over load will never connected to star ? contactor

thanks for your schematics
i made the start delta control circuit in fluid-sim, and i releized that it repeat the cycle when you press the start button again, and as solution i suggested to energize the main contact first.

Wiring connection reference will be near the terminal box of motor or the terminal box cover. This circuit is concept of star start delta run motors. Main supply will be connected to U1, V1, W1 and the configuration of star or delta will be based on the active contactor. Timer is to delay the turning off of the star contactor and delaying the turning on of the delta contactor. But what if the voltage of start is different from the run voltage?

Stanley,
Run inductor lamp you can connect parallel to the main contactor C1 or in series of any free NO(Normally Open) contact of C1 and trip inductor lamp or siren can be connected in series of NO (Normally Open) contact of Over Load protector.

The KLIBO-Star-Delta-Brake-Timer system has been developed with star-delta starting and braking of cage motors in mind. Starting and braking times are adjustable and can be set to meet specific application requirements. All other operating sequences are time optimized and are controlled and monitored by a controller with watch-dog feature. Powerful relays actuate the output signals for star, delta, and braking contactors. The additional integrated relay allows to interlock the control circuit and - if necessary - the main switch during braking. The KLIBO-Diode-Brake and KLIBO-Phase-Brake systems are particularly well suited for braking applications. These models use a braking contactor to switch the braking current to the motor coil. For maximum braking torque, the braking current can be wired to 2 or 3 coils. With the 2 coil braking system, a jumper can be used to activate the star contactor during braking.

The relation between the ambient temperature and mounting interval is shown in the following graph.
If the Timer is used at 55C or higher with a mounting interval that is smaller than that shown in the following diagram, the temperature inside the Timer will increase, reducing the life expectancy of internal parts.

InputNoneOutputControl outputThe star output is turned OFF when the dial set value is reached and the delta output is
turned ON after the preset transfer time elapses.

How many second we need to setting for changeover timer from STAR to DELTA sequence for Star Delta Starter? This question is very popular among electrician around the world when handling the Star Delta Starter for their application.

Prepare the stop watch to measure the time from 0 (zero) ampere until peak value during STAR sequence. After that use the time that we measure to setting change over for the Star Delta Starter timer. We need minimum two person to perform this measuring and start stop the starter.

We can measure the speed of motor when space is available or the pulley or shaft not covered such as air-compressor.From the basic point for Star Delta Starter is it must running 80% of speed of motor,we can measure the speed of motor (RPM) during STAR sequence.

Set the stop watch and measure the time from starting (0 rpm ) until it reach 80% of motor speed.example if full motor speed is 1400 rpm,so for 80% full speed is around 1,120 rpm.So stop the watch and take the time reading.

We can use the try and error method to get the best time for change over from STAR to DELTA.Any suggestion, ideas or comment, please share it on my comment box.We can discuss this issue from different perspective.

Thermal overload relay not selected or set properly.
Insufficient horsepower to accelerate load properly.
Time delay not long enough to reach 80% point as described above.
Check the design.
Check the components.
Check the settings.
