Universities South Africa (USAf) is hosting Webinar sessions on 23 & 24 October 2025 during the international, Open Access Week (OA2025), on the theme: “Who Owns Our Knowledge”?

These webinar sessions will bring together thought leaders, researchers, and policymakers to reflect on how we create, share, and control knowledge.

How we can shape a more open, just, and sustainable knowledge ecosystem for South Africa, the region, and beyond?

Within our national context, higher education institutions are public entities. The access, use and value derived from research and scholarship ought not be a privilege that few enjoy, but should become a shared, public resource, to the benefit of many in South Africa, within the continent and beyond.

In times of disruption and constant change, it’s time to ask bold questions:
💭 Who creates and owns the knowledge we rely on?
💭 Who has access to it and who doesn’t?
💭 How can we reclaim knowledge as a shared public good?

Join USAf’s courageous conversations on the future of open, equitable research and scholarship, in partnership with the Department of Science, Technology and Innovation, ASSAf, The National Research Foundation of South Africa (NRF), SANLiC, and CHELSA.
