Autodesk Vasari is an early-design tool focusing on the key aspects of performance based conceptual design. Used in the beginning of a project, it can be used to develop, analyze and explore alternative concepts and see the solutions climatic and formal consequences. This easy-to-use software can help you evaluate different concepts and, when done, let you import it to Revit Architecture to use it as a basis for you project in a full fledged BIM environment.
The next steps were key. First: what kind of look and feel should this app have? What should be the first experience like? What about the 10th or 100th experience? These mockups then became more and more detailed as we worked out the user interface scheme for the 3D world and the gallery. Second, was to figure out how to actually modify the objects. This turned out to be the most challenging and rewarding aspect of this project. Here we also used story-boarding to figure out the gestures we would need to create an manipulate forms. In just a few weeks after starting the planning process, we had a working prototype - shown in this shaky video. This comments is about why is it not possible to see or turn on Levels in the Revit Project file as it is in Families and project files in Vasari? That is really a thing I am missing when modeling, especially with massings. For me it is littlebit strange that is not possible when it is a tool that works with objects that almost all the time have relations to Levels. It makes it more difficult to work in 3D with the object modeling.

Architectural Commercial Design Using Revit 2014 is designed for the architectural student using Revit 2014. The intent is to provide the student with a well-rounded knowledge of tools and techniques for use in both school and industry. This text takes a project based approach to learning Revit's Architectural tools in which the student develops a three story office building. Each book comes with a CD containing numerous video presentations of the written material. General building codes and industry standard conventions are covered in a way that is applicable to the current exercise.
The first two chapters are intended to get the reader familiar with the user interface and many of the common menus and tools of Revit 2014. A small office is created in chapter two to show just how easy it is to get started using Revit. By the end of chapter two the student will be excited and prepared to take on a much larger project.
In other words, you may create your own building, integrate it in an environment and manipulate the environmental properties where your buiding is and simulate and understand instantaneously the impact of this environment parameter changes on your building.
To illustrate this, I recommend you to download and install the Vasari project on your computer. During the installation, I may suggest you to watch the Autodesk Project Vasari Teaser and the video Introducing Autodesk Project Vasari. The process of conception of any building is quite important for the success of any project, and the amount of information that we have by the time we design a building will make a huge difference at the end. One of the tools we have start with the right foot a project is a BIM based tools to study the environment and the project as a whole. One of the tools that offer this type of analysis is the Autodesk Revit, which can help with the design process of the project. But, as you may be wondering, for some professionals it is a very expansive tool, and not a real option for most people. But, if you want to give a try to a new project from the Autodesk labs called Vasari, you will be able to do a lot of what Revit can do on the early stages of development for a project, and best of all, for free.
If you want to download Vasari, unfortunately it is only available for windows and will work for a couple of months for free. Like other projects from Autodesk Labs, it will probably turn into a lite version of Revit for architecture, and will no longer be free. Until then, enjoy.
The best thing about project Falcon is the ease of use, open it up, import an STL file and use the on screen tools to set wind direction, speed and wind axis. You will then see a conceptual 2D analysis as shown above on my conceptual structure. You can then move the 2D plane across the structure to study wind speeds and pressures at different locations around the structure. If you have time, you can set Falcon to show flow lines using the 3D simulation which takes into account the whole shape rather that a 2D slice. I first tested the tool out on a number of simple shapes just to get an understanding of how the software works. I created the shapes in AutoCAD using solids and then created STL files by typing STLOUT at the command prompt.
When you create a project it is possible to specify the geographic location using the street address or the latitude and longitude. This is useful for generating location-specific shadows for views that use them, such as daylight studies. The location provides a basis for weather information, which is used during daylight analysis.
The sun path is a visual representation of the sun's range of movement across the sky at the geographic location you specify for a project. The True North also will be made visible. This gives you the option to check if your north is set correctly.
