آشنایی با اصطلاحات رایج زبان عامیانه - قسمت اول

زبان عامیانه در واقع حاوی اصطلاحات و عباراتی در زبان انگلیسی میشود که معنایی متفاوت از معنای اصلی خود دارند. به عنوان مثال کلمه “cool” در حال حاضر به معنای“ fashionable “ و یا “fun” میباشد به طوری که کمتر کسی از این لغت در جایگاه معنایی اصلی آن “cold” استفاده میکند. اصطلاحات رایج مانند یک ویروس از یک شخص به شخص دیگر منتقل میشوند. این عبارات معمولاً در یک بازه زمانی بسیار رایج میشوند و بعد از مدتی جای خود را به عبارات دیگر میدهند.
ریشه ی اصطلاحات رایج
این عبارات معمولاً توسط یک فرد محبوب مانند یک کاراکتر سریال تلویزیونی آغاز میشوند و از آنجایی که مردم دوست دارند مانند افراد محبوب جامعه رفتار کنند، به سرعت فراگیر میشوند.
راه های یادگیری اصطلاحات رایج
1- یکی از بهترین راههای یادگیری اصطلاحات رایج تماشای سریالها و برنامههای تلویزیونی است، درست مانند یک شخص انگلیسی زبان. در زیر یک لیست از این برنامهها را مشاهده می کنید :
The Simpsons
South Park
Friends
Seinfeld
How I Met Your Mother
البته فراموش نشود که این برنامهها را حتماً با زیرنویس انگلیسی مشاهده کنید و اگر لغتی را متوجه نشدید در یک دیکشنری اصطلاحات رایج، معنای آن را پیدا کنید.

1. Pipe Down
Definition(معنا)
To stop talking; to lower the volume. Frequently used as a command meaning "Be quiet!"
Example (مثال):
• Pipe down! Mom's talking on the phone.
• Hey, pipe down in there -- I'm trying to think!
Etymology(ریشه اصطلاح):
In the old days in the British navy, musical pipes were used to send messages to the crew. The last pipe message of the day was called 'pipe down', and it signalled the time to be quiet and go to bed.
2. Yap
Definition(معنا)
To talk aimlessly; or, the mouth.
Example (مثال):
• There he goes again, yapping away at the dinner table.
• Shut your yap! We're sick of your boring comments!
Etymology(ریشه اصطلاح):
'Yap' is the sound a dog or other small animal makes. When someone talks too much, he can sound like a barking dog.
3. All Ears
Definition(معنا)
Listening carefully; keenly attentive.
Example (مثال):
• I was all ears as Svet told me this exciting story.
Etymology(ریشه اصطلاح):
You listen with your ears, so if you are 'all ears' your entire being is listening to someone speak.
4. Hooked
Definition(معنا)
Addicted; to like something so much that you need it every day.
Example(مثال):
• I'm really hooked on the hamburgers at Junior's.
• 2) I really like Holly, my new girlfriend. After just two dates, I'm hooked!
Etymology(ریشه اصطلاح):
A 'hook' is a curved piece of metal used to catch something, like a fish hook. If you are 'hooked' on something, it has caught you and won't let go. This term was originally used by drug addicts to describe the feeling of needing drugs, and now it used to describe anything that is so good that you want it every day.
5. Nailed
Definition(معنا)
To find or catch someone doing something wrong
Example(مثال):
• 1) Jimmy's father nailed him smoking cigarettes.
• 2) After three years of counterfeiting treasury bonds, the FBI nailed the crime ring
Etymology(ریشه اصطلاح):
A 'nail' is a small piece of metal that holds two pieces of wood together. When you get nailed, you and the thing you did wrong are attached together, for everyone to see.
