Hello KeystoneJS community! I’ve got some exciting news for you.

Over the last few months, my company, Skagit Connext, has had me develop a WordPress-like alternative back end for KeystoneJS. We’re calling it ConnextCMS. Today we released it as open source on GitHub!

This alternative back end utilizes the Backbone.js and Require.js frameworks. It uses API calls to talk with KeystoneJS, and because it is front end based, it can all be debugged in the browser.

Additional out-of-the-box features include local file and image hosting, TinyMCE plugins for adding your images and files in the WYSWYG editor, automatic image resizing, and Nodemailer for emailing forms.

The best part? You can clone your own working copy in a few minutes. No need to build from source unless you want. This is a great way to get a working copy of KeystoneJS, even if ConnextCMS is of no interest to you.

I think KeystoneJS is an amazing piece of software, but over the last several months I’ve seen dozens if not hundreds of people get stymied by the install or turned away because they are uncomfortable developing on the server side. I’ve worked really hard to develop this code for those people. I want to help push KeystoneJS to the main stream and I think ConnextCMS can help get it there.

Watch the 15 minute intro video on ConnextCMS.com to find out more.

For those who are having trouble with installing KeystoneJS:

I just posted a new video that shows how to get a fully operational web server running in 10 minutes that has functional copies of both KeystoneJS and ConnextCMS:

I might be a late comer in this arena but I think this is what I will be using to replace the various PHP CMSes I am trying to run away from.

Thanks Kosona! I'm in the process of making several improvements and updating the code to work with the newly released Keystone V4.0 beta.
