Hi everyone,

I’m currently running Keycloak version 14.0.0 in a Docker Compose setup with a PostgreSQL database. I want to upgrade to Keycloak v21 or the latest stable version, and I have a few questions before I move forward.

Questions:

  • If I change the Docker image to a newer version (like v21), will Keycloak automatically upgrade the database?

  • Is it safe to upgrade directly from v14 to v21, or should I go through intermediate versions (like v16 or v17)?

  • Will this upgrade break anything, like my current users, clients, or themes?

I will take a full backup of the database before upgrading, but I want to be sure I’m not missing anything important.

Thanks in advance for your help!
