Custom Authenticator running twice in 26.2.3

Hi,

I have written a custom Authenticator that works fine under 26.0.0. 

After upgrading to 26.2.3 on my development environment, I see that the Authenticate method runs twice. 

Is this a bug or do I need to check if it has run already?
