I'm curious to learn from other keybr users what your experience is like when trying to improve speed.

I'm still learning QWERTY (haven't managed that even after 30 years of using keyboards).

If i type slowly and carefully I usually get to speeds of around 45 to 60 wpm, which is not at all acceptable because there is no performance improvement over typing while looking at the keyboard.

If I try to type faster I can get to speeds of 70 to 95 wpm but then I get 4 to 5 errors per batch of text.

This is just with lowercase. If I try to add CAPITALS then my speed drops to around 40 wpm max. with some errors, or lower if I am being slow and careful.

I haven't even tried adding punctuation, but I assume I would be super slow.

I use keybr for at least 20min a day, usually longer, plus sometimes I do longer concentrated sessions. I have been using it for more than a month and a half, but can't tell for certain because every now and then I delete my statistics.

How long did it take you guys to type at a reasonably fast speed error free and with punctuation? any suggestions for a 'beginner' ?

P.S. I think that keybr is the best touch typing 'software' that I have ever tried, and I have spent quite a lot of time in the past with other software.

Also, another factor that slows me down is that I might be slightly dyslexic because I often type upcoming letters instead of the current one or even letters from the next word. My brain/eyes are much ahead of what I'm typing, mainly because typing feels so very slow compared to how I think.

You're too hard on yourself. It sounds like you're a very good typist. Can you give examples of what you're having trouble with? Any particular words that give you trouble?

May I ask why you keep deleting your statistics? I've been using keybr for about 4 months now & when I take a test on another website I still only average between 40-45wpm & I do make mistakes. I am concentrating now on typing with no mistakes & not worrying about the speed at all. I am still only doing lower case letters as well!!

Hi Robin,

I reset my statistics because the way they are currently displayed is not very helpful to me. I want to know how much faster and more accurately I am typing now compared to last week or 2 weeks ago, not since I started using keybr. After a few days, keybr accumulates so many samples that it is hard to see each individual sample or to compare just a specific duration of time.

I have already suggested that keybr us a graph library similar to what xe.com uses.
http://www.xe.com/currencycharts/?from=USD&to=EUR

As you can see it's much more usable and very easy to filter time ranges.

Same applies to things like average speed. I want to know my current average, I don't really care about the average speed since I started using keybr

Hi Todd,

Thanks for replying. Actually it's good that you are asking for examples because that forces me to think about what things I have difficulties with.

I have problems with N and M .. Very often I write emails to my boss starting with 'Dear Nark...'

I have problems with x c and v so basically it's impossible for me to cut and past reliably. You can imagine how impossible that makes using any kind of text editor. I can't seem to stop using the index finger for both c and v which makes it impossible to hit the correct key.

I have problems with r and t which use the same index finger and also with y and u probably for the same reason. Also j and h and f and g suffer of the same problem.

I have problems with 4 and 5 and also with 9 and 0. I almost always type 0 with the ring finger rather than with the pinkie.

I have problems with using the correct shift key for capital letters and often use the shift key on the same side as the letter that I am trying to capitalize. Also, I am very very slow when typing capitals. CAPITALS.

Finally, and most importantly for programming, I cannot enter any symbols blindly .. I confuse the - and the _ with 0 and ) .. I cannot reach the += sign .. better with [] and {} but sometimes i hit the p

I also confuse , and . and cannot reliably use any of :;'"\| as they all merge into one big key in my mind.

As for words that i have trouble with:
- anything that has an x and a c like exactly, excellent, excessive
- anything that has a v and a c like vice vicar
- any words with h and g especially together, often high becomes jigh
- any words with numbers at the beginning or end like variable01, item6

Another thing I noticed is that I tend to hit the shift key much later than I hit the letter, so I often end up with a small letter and maybe Capitalize the next one. Strange bug (or feature).

I also tried to use typing master for 10min just to compare my speed/accuracy there with keybr. There I get about 45 wpm with about 94% accuracy .. definitely not such a great result. But the 'drills' there are full of repetitive useless words so that slows me down and makes me do more errors.

Use your left index finger to type an X and use the second finger on your left hand to type a C. You can use either Shift key to capitalize a letter close to it.

I apologize for steering you wrong, Shadi. It's better to slide the fourth finger on your left hand from the S key to the X key and slide your left index finger from the D key to the C key without looking at the keyboard.

Hey Shadi..no you should use the finger nest to your "pinkie finger" to type the "X" , and the second finger (one beside index finger) to type the "C"...look up typing finger chart to show yourself where your fingers should be my friend!
