Rohan Chand (born January 25, 2004) is an American teen actor. He has appeared in films such as Jack and Jill, Lone Survivor, and Bad Words. He also appeared in the "Crossfire" episode of Homeland. He made a cameo appearance in Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle in 2017. He starred as Mowgli in the Warner Bros film Mowgli: Legend of the Jungle released on Netflix in 2018.
Chand was born in New York City, to parents of Indian descent.[1] When he was six years old, he was spotted by a casting director while playing baseball; the casting director was the mother of another child playing baseball, and encouraged Chand to audition for a role in Adam Sandler's film Jack and Jill.[2] Chand ultimately won the role of Sandler's on-screen adopted son, and the film was released in 2011.[2] His next role was in a 2011 episode of Homeland titled "Crossfire", in which he played Issa Nazir, the young son of the series' central terrorist who forms a close relationship with an American soldier, played by Damian Lewis.[3] In the 2013 film Lone Survivor, Chand played the son of an Afghan who provides assistance to an American Navy SEAL (played by Mark Wahlberg), and spoke in Hindi and Urdu for the part.[3][4]
In 2013, Chand appeared in a main role in the comedy film Bad Words, playing Chaitanya Chopra, a spelling bee entrant who befriends the film's main character (played by Jason Bateman) after auditioning when he was eight years old.[3] He was ten years old by the time of the film's release and his performance was widely praised by critics,[2] with a writer for Variety magazine predicting that Chand would receive "many more big screen opportunities following this endearingly wide-eyed turn".[1] His next project was the 2014 film The Hundred-Foot Journey directed by Lasse Hallström and starring Helen Mirren, in which he played the young version of the film's main character (played by Manish Dayal).[2]
In April 2014 it was announced that Chand would star alongside Lea Michele in DreamWorks Animation's Bollywood-style musical, Bollywood Superstar Monkey.[5] In addition, Chand was cast in Andy Serkis' Mowgli: Legend of the Jungle, in the leading role of Mowgli. The film was released in November 2018.[6]

Atsushi Takahashi (Blue Exorcist film, Rideback director) directed and scripted the film, and TOHO distributed the film. The film also received a manga adaptation by Shintarō Mugiwara, as well as a Nintendo 3DS game that shipped in the same month as the film's release.
The film's story relates to the Japanese folkloric belief that a rabbit resides on the moon. The film is set on the moon and centers on strong friendships bound together by the "ability to believe." Luna is a mysterious girl who lives on the far side of the moon. Diabolo and his subordinate Goddard stand in the way of Nobita and his friends on their moon exploration journey.
Shinnosuke Yakuwa (Doraemon the Movie: Nobita and the Birth of Japan 2016, Doraemon the Movie: Nobita in the New Haunts of Evil - Peko and the Five Explorers) directed the film, which is his first work directing from an original script. Naoki Prize-winning mystery author Midzuki Tsujimura (Tsunagu, Kagami no Kojō) wrote the script, and she also wrote a novel adaptation, which debuted in November 2018. Dai Hirai performed the theme song "The Gift."

Ketika ditanya mengenai kesiapan para penikmat film di Indonesia untuk mendapatkan suguhan film yang biasa ditawarkan Hollywood ini, Chand mengatakan bahwa ia berharap para penonton siap karena sudah terbiasa dengan film-film pahlawan super buatan luar negeri. Meski pun begitu, film pahlawan super Indonesia ini dibuat sekreatif mungkin oleh seluruh kru dengan memperhatikan kedekatan cerita dengan kehidupan sehari-hari agar lebih disukai penonton.
Setelah berhasil mendapatkan sisi kreatifnya, giliran bagaimana mengemas dan menyesuaikan tampilan-tampilan gambar dengan efek-efek yang sesuai dengan ide cerita. Film pahlawan super sudah pasti akrab dengan efek-efek spesial yang disisipkan sesuai situasi dalam filmnya, hal teknis ini menjadi rintangan paling besar bagi Starvision Plus selama proses pembuatan film Jagoan Instan.
Saat ini, dunia perfilman Indonesia sedang dilema lantaran revisi Daftar Negatif Investasi Indonesia yang mengizinkan investor asing untuk memiliki hak penuh kepemilikan di industri film. Starvision Plus mengaku sangat menyayangkan hal ini dan berharap untuk cepat diberi kejelasan keputusan agar film-film lokal tidak dirampas oleh film asing.
Untuk mempertahankan film-film lokal, para pembuat film harus menonjolkan kekuatan film Indonesia, yang menurut Chand adalah bahasa dan budayanya. Selain itu, film Indonesia juga harus meningkatkan kualitas dan kreativitas, juga mengemas cerita dengan kedekatan keseharian penduduk lokal agar mudah disukai penonton.
Dengan memulai ide pahlawan super ala Hollywood, Starvision Plus berharap untuk memberikan yang terbaik bagi penonton Indonesia. Dengan pernyataan itu, di tahun 2016 ini Starvision Plus ingin membuat film-film dengan kualitas, kreativitas, dan biaya yang lebih besar dari sebelumnya agar karya yang dihasilkan nanti menjadi maksimal.
