How funny you should ask! We're in the throes of doing online conference scheduling for the first time ever. There have been some growing pains, but it's generally going quite well.
We're using Google Calendar timeslots. Of course, parents need Google accounts to do so, but many have them.
I created a web page with links to all the various teachers' timeslots. (screenshot below)
The biggest challenges:
1. Getting teachers to feel comfortable with it. (It's getting better now that reservations are coming in)
2. Many parents have incorrect time zones in the calendars, so the slots show the wrong times.

Mankato as well have used You Can Book Me for the past two years district wide for online bookings (Elementary and Middle). It was free, but they are moving to a paid for model which puts Mankato in the market again. We have loved the ease of YCBM's setup and integration with Google Calendar.
More info for any YCBM users:
All my schools were 'grandfathered' into the free, but sometime this year we will be moved over to their paid for model. From my understanding it will be a 'pay per event' if using the Group Calendar in YCBM. If you have your own YCBM, for booking training's like I do, that goes to $10 a month per calendar. Ouch.

Lakeville South has been using PTCFast for three years now and our parents love it. It has been free to this point, but beginning next semester there will be a yearly fee. At this time that fee is $50 per building, per year.
We send a message to our families alerting them that the link to the conferences will be sent on a certain date and time. Once the conferences are launched, it creates a live link that is sent to both the families and the teachers. Parents get a link to schedule conferences with their teachers and the teachers get a link to their conference only. Teachers can at any time, check their conference schedule through that link. This fall we had over 1800 conferences scheduled within the first hour and a half of the link being active.
We have had a few hiccups, but each year the site and our process has been improved. Our only issue this year has been we had slow site response time during one day of our registration period.

This fall we did our first try at this using Google calendar timeslots. In general it worked pretty well, save for some parents whose Google calendars were not set to the correct time zone. That was an issue. Now that we have one round down, there are a few minor tweaks we can make and it should work well.
Teachers shared their conference calendar with the building's secretary in case she needed to make changes as parents called the office.

Two of our middle schools used the Parent-Teacher Conference scheduler this fall. It has some limitations, but it was easy for teachers to set up. Parents particularly like seeing all of their child's classes and teacher availability on one screen through the ParentVUE login. We use PTCFast.com and it has been very successful. It was free, but now I believe it has a one time cost of $50 per building. It takes some initial setup, but once the setup is complete it is a matter of verifying conference details for the new conference schedule, launching the conferences and sharing the link with parents. No parent accounts are needed, parents can signup for all of their conferences at once and there is an option for parents to translate the instructions to Spanish.
We give Teachers access to their conference schedule so they have up-to-date signup information right up to the time of the conferences. The one limitation we have run into is, PTCFast doesn't seem to be mobile device friendly.

I created an Excel spreadsheet used amongst staff only. They block off the times they are unavailable, they sign their families up for a time slot, schedule interpreters and then we use the same document to mailmerge the reminder postcards. Happy to share if interested.
