Viewers can never seem to get enough non-stop thrills and weekly justice on TV. Since Columbo, the TV market has seen profit and success the case-of-the-week law enforcement shows. It's no wonder every network has its fair share of law enforcement procedural shows in constant rotation. Spins-offs of other spin-offs get green-lit and renewed quarterly. Its only been over the past 20 years that networks have upped their law enforcement game by diving deep into elite task forces.
From the US Navy SEALs to the US Army Delta Force, many of the United States elite military operators have seen their lives played out in hour-long dramas. Apart from the usual uniformed beat cops and detectives, elite units add a hint of Mission Impossible mixed with procedural themes. Adding bigger targets increases the weight of each episode and the tow on the characters. While courtroom shows and low-level cop shows continue to be a seller for networks, there have been several elite special force-based shows that have changed the crime TV landscape.
JAG (U.S. military acronym for Judge Advocate General) ushered in a new era of procedural law enforcement shows in 1995. ... there are few breach scripts out there...along with a few "clear" the building ones. What is missing, IMHO, is a "stack-up" script. Most of the time the AI team stands right in front of the door, (even when is open) and does not enter properly. Avoiding the "fatal-funnel" is the number one priority in every CQB/building clearance operation, but ArmA AI seams to LOVE getting slotted by entering like a flock of sheep. I'm aware of ArmA engine limitations, regarding AI behaviour, so I know is just a dream that I have. Then I remember games from 20 years ago (specifically "Delta Force: Black Hawk Down") where your team stacked-up and when you gave a GO they clear the room properly, going tho the corners and whatnot.
I was thinking about this the other day when you posted. Over the last twenty years I've played every Rainbow Six game in existence and I still have SWAT 4 installed. Even in those triple A titles the stack and clear options do not always work properly. AIs get stuck, stop responding or complete the clear in a less than ideal way. Trying to shoehorn that functionality into A3 will likely never produce reliable results. It will either be a rigid scripted sequence (not very immersive or adaptable) or it will have an unacceptable rate of failure.
It's not impossible but it is also not likely to reliably produce the results you want.
On what planet is it mostly the same? Its Left 4 Dead with cops instead of zombies. Games like Swat are far more tactical with rules of engagement and the likes to contend with. Its more "sim" than action. That's not to say Payday doesn't require tactics, but its much easier to wing it in Payday than Swat.
