Add your credential to the YubiKey with touch or NFC-enabled tap. Hardware-backed strong two-factor authentication raises the bar for security while delivering the convenience of an authenticator app.

The Yubico Authenticator app works across Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS and Android. Get the same set of codes across all Yubico Authenticator apps for desktops as well as for all leading mobile platforms.
Users switch phones often. With other authenticator apps, when a user has a new phone or OS upgrade, IT often needs to help reset the enrollment flow and support calls rack up costs.
The Yubico Authenticator app allows for user self-service to enroll multiple secrets across various services, making this a secure and efficient solution at scale.
Google is all over phones anyway, so there can't be that much gained from having app presence on phones to collect data. The app is widely used, so the investment in a desktop app would certainly not go to waste. Many would even pay a small fee to use it, vs. having to run it on an emulator.
So why aren't they doing it? And furthermore, why do you have to scan a QR code or jump through a ton of hoops to get a recovery phrase by claiming you can't scan it?
I'd just go with an RSA token for everything, but so many sites take Google Authenticator only. I don't want to have to keep a spare phone with my auth app on it in case my phone breaks for the 1000th time and has to be replaced again. I am very hard on phones. Its being tied to the phone OS makes it not really a distinct authentication entity like a hardware token, so separating it from desktop seems pointless to me.
Anybody knows if it's possible to login using the "Password Less" method in my Windows Desktop Lastpass application using my smartphone lastpass authenticator app (just like in the chrome browser with the extension)?
I'm just getting up to speed with this myself, but it appears that there is now a google-authenticator command-line interface that's distributed with the PAM module at -authenticator-libpam.
Install and run Google Authenticator on BlueStacks Android emulator - very easy and it gives you a single click Google Authenticator shortcut on the desktop that will load bluestacks with authenticator already open. Almost as good as a Google Authenticator desktop app.
I have very mixed feelings towards the enforcement of MFA by Salesforce, which as a consequence enforces the usage of authenticator apps. I have over 400 developer orgs to deal with. I have to login on dozens of orgs every day.
This document provides the user experience (UX) guidelines and best practices for relying parties and implementers of a FIDO desktop authenticator experience, based on a regulated industry (e.g., banking) use case. These guidelines aim to accelerate decision-making during FIDO implementation and specify what information and controls should be given to users.
The principles in this document were developed following multiple (100-plus) sessions of moderated and unmoderated consumer research conducted by Blink, in collaboration with FIDO UX Task Force members. Existing mobile and desktop biometric authentication experiences currently in the market were also reviewed and served as input during the research and evaluation process.
Should you not be all that into having a phone around, you can get an uber-cheap smartphone for like 20 bucks, forget about 4g service and just use it on wi-fi at home. Put the authenticator on that and forget about it.
If you enabled User Elevation in Duo for Windows Logon v4.1.0 or later, you'll see the Duo authentication prompt after you enter your password for a credentialed elevation request. The application you were trying to launch runs after you approve the Duo two-factor request. If you chose to remember the device at the Windows desktop login, then you won't need to approve Duo authentication for UAC elevations made by the same logged-in account either until the trusted Duo session ends.
Yes. However, you must use the same code on both devices. Ideally, you should set up your phone and PC at the same time. If you have already set up Google Authenticator on one device, you may need to disable it on the services you use and re-enable with a new code. During the process of getting a new code, you can use the same code on your PC and mobile device. Google steps you through the process, including how to back up your codes."}}," type": "Question","name": "Do I have to start from scratch every time I add Google Authenticator to a new PC?","acceptedAnswer": " type": "Answer","text": "There is a trick to making the transition to a new PC easier than having to set up Google Authenticator from scratch. However, you need to do this during the initial setup. When you're given QR codes for each site, print them or screenshot them to save them for later. Make sure you name each code so that you know which sites they belong to. Then, if you need to set up a new PC to use Google Authenticator, you just need to install your chosen app from the above list and add in your QR codes. It's quicker and doesn't involve having to remove 2FA from any accounts."," type": "Question","name": "Why is it a good idea to have Google Authenticator on your PC?","acceptedAnswer": " type": "Answer","text": "While many services want users to rely solely on their phones for 2FA, it's not feasible. Phones get hacked, lost, and broken, leaving you with no access to your Google Authenticator codes. Even if you're just being texted codes to enter, you're still stuck if you don't have access to your phone for any reason. By using your desktop, you don't have to rely on your smartphone to access any accounts that use 2FA via Google Authenticator. Of course, this only works as an alternative if you're just logging in to your accounts when you're at your computer."]}Image credit: Firmbee.com via Unsplash All screenshots by Crystal Crowder
Save that, close out the file, and open C:\Program Files\Yubico\Yubico Authenticator\yubioath-desktop.exe in the modified folder. Note that for some reason, my yubioath-desktop.exe seems to need to run with admin privs.
Note: The QR code option is only available on desktop versions of Parallels Client (Windows, Mac or Linux) version 17. In Parallels Clients on mobile platforms, HTML5 and Parallels Clients of old versions (16, 16.5 or others), only 26 alphanumeric code is available.
Just recently yubico authenticator has stopped working on manjaro. It works fine on my other two distros so it is nothing to do with the key itself, it is recognised by lsusb and ykman on manjaro and indeed using ykman I can get correct authentication codes but I prefer the gui. Anyone have any idea about this? (clue, it is not a pcscd error) When started from the cli I get the following overly large error message (but it means nothing to me):
Thank you all for your replies, I now have a solution. I removed yubioath-desktop and installed yubioath-desktop-beta-bin version 6.1.0-1 and that is now recognising my yubikey and correctly displaying the oath codes.
Google Authenticator is a mobile application you can install on your mobile device to enable Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) logins to your accounts. This authenticator app helps protect your online accounts and devices from malicious actors. Google Authenticators generates One-Time Passwords (OTPs), which users can use in addition to their passwords to verify their identities.
The CyberArk Authenticator is software installed on a Windows or macOS machine that generates TOTPs that you can use to satisfy authentication challenges when you sign in to CyberArk Identity. It's similar to mobile-based authenticators (for example, the CyberArk Identity mobile app or Google Authenticator), except that it can run on your Windows or macOS based machine. This allows you to use OTPs to sign in to CyberArk Identity without depending on a mobile device.
Store your unique credential on a hardware-backed security key and take it wherever you go from mobile to desktop. No more storing sensitive secrets on your mobile phone, leaving your account vulnerable to takeovers. With the Yubico Authenticator you can raise the bar for security.
Setting up the Yubico Authenticator desktop app is easy. Simply download and open the app, insert your YubiKey, and begin adding the accounts you wish to protect by using the QR code provided by each service.
I can't open my (NC)wallet. All Google Authenticator Codes get refused when trying to log in.I tried with the "entrance" of the wallet on desktop; and filled in the codes from my mobile.I can't get the extension to work on my desktop. Both were set to detect time automatically.error in authenticator-extensiondetails of error
Microsoft Authenticator can generate, store, and apply passwords at websites via an autofill feature. Beyond supporting iOS, iPadOS, and Android devices, the autofill option works in the desktop flavors of Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge via an extension.
When you log on to Citrix Workspace app, your credentials are passed through to StoreFront, along with the apps and desktops and Start menu settings. After configuring single sign-on, you can log on to Citrix Workspace app and launch virtual apps and desktops sessions without having to retype your credentials.
When you add a store using the Storebrowse utility, your credentials pass through the Citrix Gateway server, along with the apps and desktops enumerated for you, including your Start menu settings. After configuring single sign-on, you can add the store, enumerate your apps and desktops, and launch the required resources without having to type your credentials multiple times.
When enabled, Kerberos authenticates without passwords for Citrix Workspace app. As a result, prevents Trojan horse-style attacks on the user device that try to gain access to passwords. Users can log on using any authentication method and access published resources, for example, a biometric authenticator such as a fingerprint reader.
