After breaking up with his girlfriend, Piyali Patel in London, Luv Agnihotri insists his younger brother Kush, an assistant film director and photographer in Mumbai, to find him a bride. Kush reaches home to meet his army veteran father, Col. (Retd.) Swarnik Agnihotri and homemaker mother, Kanak and travels with them all over India to find a bride suitable for Luv but in vain. His friends come up with an idea to advertise this in a newspaper. A certain Dilip Dixit responds to the advertisement, claiming that he is looking for a suitable groom for his daughter. However, when Kush travels with his parents to Delhi to meet the Dixit family, he is shocked to find out that the prospective bride is none other than Dimple "D" Dixit, who he had previously met during a chance encounter on a college outing five years ago.

Obnoxious and loud, Dimple is everything that Kush is not, but he pleads not to create a scene and asks her to consider the alliance. After meeting Luv, Dimple agrees to marry him. Her brother Ajay wants them to get married at a place in Agra from where the Taj Mahal is visible. However, during the wedding preparations, Kush realizes he has feelings for Dimple, and she initially responds by slapping him as to why he didn't tell her before. Later, they try to elope, but it doesn't work out and they return, planning to distract Luv. Eventually, on the eve of the wedding, Dimple brings Piyali, a mutual friend, to Agra. Luv, figuring out he still has feelings for Piyali, the two elope the next day and get married. Luv then send letters to the Agnihotri and Dixit families explaining the reason behind his elopement.

Like many Bollywood films, Mere Brother Ki Dulhan has suffered allegations that it is a rip-off of an American film even before filming wrapped. According to these sources, the film rips off Dan in Real Life (2007),[7] in which Steve Carell's character also falls in love with his brother's girlfriend (played by Dane Cook and Juliette Binoche respectively). The film has also drawn comparison to an earlier Yash Raj Films production, Mere Yaar Ki Shaadi Hai (2002).[8]

Sukanya Verma feels Mere Brother Ki Dulhan is pretty ordinary fare. Post YOUR reviews here!

Seriously, triple cute sundae, anyone?

Ever noticed the similarity between Imran Khan, Katrina Kaif and Ali Zafar? All three look younger than they are and bear an incredibly fresh, genuine and genteel disposition. They're easy on the eyes and pleasant enough to make the most banal look bearable.

First-time filmmaker Ali Abbas Zafar avails of these qualities to fashion a feel-good, melodrama-free, candy floss rom-com about two brothers and a mutual love interest. In dreaming a picture perfect visual, however, Abbas Zafar overlooks one rather critical technicality. Script.

Mere Brother Ki Dulhan tries hard to do a Hrishikesh Mukherjee in a Yash Raj set up but is held back by a middling script that banks excessively on charisma, camaraderie and a common malady among present-day aspiring filmmakers -- fanboyism. And while the references from RD's retro chartbusters to Dabangg's clout are all very nice, it's not novel any more.

But, here, since Imran Khan's character, Kush, is an assistant director in Bollywood films, Zafar has a convenient excuse to insert some gags and gimmicks that hat tip to Sholay, Mughal-E-Azam, Dil Se and, sure enough, Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge.

"Mere Brother Ki Dulhan" is a quirky romantic comedy set in the world of the upper middle class in Northern India. Kush Agnihotri is looking for the ideal Indian bride for his brother Luv Agnihotri who stays in London. In his quest, Kush goes through an array of wacky encounters with several families until he finally finds that perfect girl in Dimple Dixit, the craziest/wackiest girl he has ever known. Both the families meet. Formalities completed. Preparations proceed in full swing. And just then, our hero Kush falls in love with Dimple... his brother's dulhan. What follows is a comical and unpredictable series of events in this unusual topsy-turvy tale of love.
