I was once working on some mysql tables somebody else had set up, I was working with navicat and I went to insert data into this table and got to a field that could only be populated with values from another table, had a drop down box and everything (though I know that was navicats doing) like it had some sort of coded link between the tables. This impressed me, so much so that I opened my mouth wide in awe..

I am now wondering how I do this, as it seems perfect for my linking tables, you know the id_from_table_1 links to id_from_table_2 tables. Especially with the drop down box navicat offered when this was set up, better still if it could work like a select box where I see the name of the item in the list but it inserts the id -> I know I may be asking for a little too much here, either way the first of my queries intrigues me. Was this some coded link in mysql or some function coded into navicat? either way I would very much like to recreate it, so I to can appear like a wizard to my colleges perhaps even gaining the title "Harry Potter" amongst those that see my awesome skills.

In Navicat, go to Tools -> Data Transfer. Select source and target, and hey presto that's your transfer done. If that isn't suitable then you may need to put together an UPDATE query manually to manually update fields in one table based on fields in another.

I found out by clicking around that I was talking about foreign keys. Once set-up properly Navicat can provide a drop-down box with the foreign table details, making data entry that little bit easier and that little less prone to human error :) not to mention faster table requests which is nice :)

In Part 1, we learned how to secure the MySQL root account using the Navicat Premium User Management Tool. Today's blog will focus on setting a new user's account details, account limits, and SSL settings.

Clicking the New User button on the Objects toolbar opens an Untitled User tab. It, in turn, contains five tabs named General, Advanced, Server Privileges, Privileges, and SQL Preview. We covered the General tab in Part 1, but we'll quickly recap here. On the General tab, we need to provide:

MySQL enables database administrators to expire account passwords manually, and to establish a policy for automatic password expiration using either the MySQL mysql_native_password or sha256_password built-in authentication plugin.

In order to use encrypted connections, OpenSSL or yaSSL must be present in your system. Also, the MySQL server needs to be built with TLS support and be properly configured to use one of them. Note that the term SSL, refers to the old, now insecure, protocol preceding TLS, is still used in many of the variable names and options for compatibility reasons although MySQL only uses its more secure (TLS) successors.

You have to go on mysql cli or phpmyadmin and duplicate the root user, instead of localhost you can use '%' for any source or just put your source IP address.
Database Servers should not be easy to access from any location, they must be properly configured with granular and known access.

What I did: Investigate the temp directory and found it had actually created the file. However when I returned to Navicat I could not continue because of this error. I had to return to the temp directory where I deleted this file. Then Navicat could be used again to locate databases. Have repeated this about 6 times since with similar messages.

I would move your mysql temp directory to somewhere other than Windows\Temp and exclude your anti-virus from scanning this new temp folder. Looks like the likely cause is anti-virus trying to read the file.

I suppose my main point is the WHICH ini file I should place this new temp directory. I am assuming that the comment sign above means that currently I have no temp directory and the Windows\Temp is being used by default from elsewhere within MySQL.

Good afternoon, I have a vm with ubuntu 20.04 and a private connection to a mysql service with an SSH certificate.
I need to allow remote access via Navicat to the database to facilitate administrative tasks.
On the other hand, I have tomcat up on port 8080 but I don't have access, will I have to see any firewall configuration?

I see Navicat is a Graphical database management and development software and you intend to allow remote access to the SQL instance on azure Vm to facilitate administrative tasks. As per this article, I see Navicat console, kind of establishes a connection with SQL instance somewhat similar to SQL management studio.

Firstly, if you need to remotely connect to SQL Server on the Azure VM, you must configure an inbound rule on the network security group. The rule allows traffic on the port on which SQL Server listens (default of 1433).

Note: If you selected the inbound port MS SQL (1433) in the settings during provisioning, these changes have been already made for you. You can go to the next section on how to configure the firewall.

As it seems to me now it will be stored in the mysql data folder of xampp (C:\xampp\mysql\data). Do I really link my test site to the database in this fashion? or should I force Navicat to work in the C:\xampp\htdocs\test folder where I will have all my other document for the server?

I don't think you understand how MySQL works x.x. Think of it for this example as a web server. Your scripts connect to it and ask it for data, and then it sends back data. It runs as a server (daemon or what ever you want to call it). You should never need to access the data files directly. (Except for backing or or something, unless you have the file format of MySQL files memorized.)

So if I write a script in php and save it in C:\xampp\htdocs\ (the localhost folder), and it queries database_X, which is saved in C:\xampp\mysql\data folder (default MySQL folder), and then later upload everything into their respective locations on to my webhost server all the links and filepaths will work?

If you are developing your PHP script locally which uses a MySQL database. Then you'll need to backu[ your database on your local server and then import your database to your remote MySQL server. You do not access the files stored in C:\xampp\mysql\data. You'll have to either use the Command Line or use something like phpMyAdmin (this is easiest) to perform your backup.

Create a database and supporting tables in Navicat (similar to phpMyAdmin) on my local server (XAMPP). And I want to write php scripts and html documents and save them on my local server so I can not only test them, but use them to add information to my tables in my database that is also on my local server, and then when I'm satisifed with the look, feel and usability of my site that I've developed locally, I want to upload the entire site to my remote server, databases and all. I do know how to import databases into my remote server, and I know how to ftp files to my remote server, but when creating the databases and php and html files locally, do I store the files in:
