Hello Kerns and Laurelhurst Neighborhoods,

I’m writing to share that the Portland Bureau of Transportation (PBOT) is proposing to install two green painted bike boxes, connecting green bike lanes, and “No Turn on Red” signs on the north and south legs of 32nd Avenue at E Burnside Street. To install the bike box on the southern side, two parking spaces would need to be removed to allow space for a vehicle travel lane. No parking changes would be required on the northern side.

Bike boxes and No Turn on Red operations are safety measures to support the movement of people biking and walking through an intersection.

Letters went out yesterday to adjacent businesses with details specific to their properties. The attached letter was also mailed to residents living near the project. They include this diagram of the proposed work:

Construction would take place in summer 2026, although timelines can change based on weather and staff availability.

Please contact Project Manager, Scott Cohen (cc’d), with any questions or concerns.

Enjoy this sunny Friday!

Best,

Abra
