Hello Kerns Neighbors,
We need more volunteers from Kerns to go to Yard Tree Giveaway events on Saturdays from 8am - Noon in October and one in November.

This will help us secure our part of a grant via Southeast Uplift to help with this effort - as well as helping to improve the tree canopy in Kerns and in the city.
Morrissey and Elizabeth have been graciously helping with this - but we need more volunteers - especially on Sat October 4 and 11 if you can.

If you can help please register at the links below or from this website: https://www.portland.gov/trees/get-involved/events/2025/9/27/volunteer-yard-tree-giveaway-events
And let us know by responding to this email.
Thank you so much to those that can help!
And thanks again to Elizabeth and Morrissey for your help so far - and in the future!

Volunteer to help at a Yard Tree Giveaway event!

At this fun and fast-paced event we will be giving away about 300 trees to Portlanders!
Folks have pre-registered for trees. The event is set up as a drive-thru format where the recipient stays in their car until it is time to load up the trees.

What to expect?

We will work rain or shine, so be sure to dress for the weather and wear closed-toe shoes. Snacks and water will be provided to volunteers. Please bring a reusable water bottle and lunch if you will need it.

High impact work includes:

  • Loading Mulch and Trees
  • Loading and unloading tools and event materials
  • Loading trees and mulch into vehicles

Finding Root-flares:

  • Work requires digging in soil, bending, crouching and lifting.
  • Sharp tools, like soil knives and pruners, will be used.

Low impact work:

  • Handing out information booklets
  • Directing traffic
  • Taking Photos
  • Stickers and promotion

For the comfort and safety of all participants, please leave your pets at home.

Before attending any event: if you are not feeling well, have a temperature above 100.4ᵒ or receive a recommendation to self-isolate – please stay home.

Portland Parks & Recreation Urban Forestry's mission is to manage and ensure Portland's urban forest infrastructure for current and future generations. Portland’s urban forest consists of 220,000 street trees, 1.2 million park trees, and nearly 3 million private property trees.

Urban Forestry is involved in managing or regulating all of these trees to differing degrees. Urban Forestry staff issue permits for planting, pruning, and removal of all public and some private trees and are on call 24/7 to respond to tree emergencies.
