Billionaires may have lots of money but they still have only one vote. Power is in the vote.

Hey, Neighborhood leaders:

Great news! Southeast Uplift has been selected as one of four contractors citywide to participate in Urban Forestry’s Yard Tree Giveaway Program. This program aims to cool our neighborhoods and boost community health by increasing urban tree canopy in Portland. In District 3 they have prioritized eight neighborhoods.

AND YOURS IS AMONG THEM!

I’m writing to offer your Neighborhood Association $1,000 to participate in the program with us by signing up your neighbors for a free yard tree!

This initiative will be coordinated via SE Uplift’s Climate Justice Action Committee who will work closely with your NA to establish and support your outreach efforts. Materials, training, and additional support will also be offered through the City’s Urban Forestry department.

This is an excellent opportunity to green up District 3 and promote your NA at the events and activities that you are already planning, participate in events hosted by Urban Forestry, and conduct 1-3 canvasses in your neighborhood over the summer. You will also be working in partnership with Southeast Uplift and in collaboration with the other District 3 NAs that choose to participate. One thousand bucks for your efforts is kinda nice, too!

Interested? This is moving fast so I need to know by Wednesday, May 27th if your NA is in. Here are the next steps:

  1. DECIDE. Are you in? Let me know. Designate someone from your NA to email me to say your’re in and I will follow up with more details.
  2. DEFINE. Who will lead this for your NA? You only need 1-2 people to take the lead. Better yet form a committee! This is a great opportunity to recruit new volunteers.
  3. ATTEND. SE Uplift will host a required orientation via our Climate Justice Action committee in early June. Date TBD.

Please review and distribute the attached slides with all the details to your board and/or any appropriate committees. Don’t delay. This is moving fast.

I hope to work with your Neighborhood Association on this fun and rewarding project!

Kind regards,

Nanci
