Please find my talk proposal for the kernel meet up. BLR December 2025

Title: Attempts and challenges to bring parallel CPU hotplug operations
Format: Regular Talk (25 + 5 minutes)

Abstract:
CPU hotplug infrastructure provides a mechanism to offline or online a CPU.
Currently it supports hotplugging one CPU at a time; enabling parallel hotplug
operations could significantly reduce both system boot time and the time
required to change SMT states on large systems.

This talk will be about Linux kernel infrastructure supporting CPU hotplug
operations, recent attempts to parallelize CPU hotplug operations, and present
challenges.

Agenda:
- How CPU hotplug is implemented in Linux Kernel 
- Recent efforts in upstream to parallelize CPU hotplug
- Challenges

Speaker:
Vishal Chourasia is a Software Engineer at IBM working on CPU Hotplug and
Process Scheduler in the Linux Kernel with 3+ years of experience. He has
expertise in ftrace, bpf, cgroups, process scheduler, boot process, cpu hotplug
etc.
