MP Singh who lives in Chandigarh, NW India, is very interested in
using Vetiver for treating household effluent. He is an engineer and
a committed environmentalist. Apart from the health aspects it is
important to reduce GHG from sewage.
MP has built himself a new house and recycles the effluent using
Vetiver to treat the effluent from his septic system. He has very
limited space, but the few Vetiver plants that he uses does the job
pretty effectively.
You will find a downloadable pdf that shows some nice annotated images
of the process.
This practice should be very applicable to Kenya and other African
countries where most of the suburban households have to rely on their
own septic tank systems - which often leak and are smelly.

I should have added that the pdf (IND_homeffluent-o.pdf) can be found
in the file section of this discussion group. Also you will see cows
eating the vetiver leaves - this should do no harm and will help the
plants tiller more and be more effective.
