In our manual it is described that the water hyacinth solution
contains rooting hormones, and how to prepare and apply that solution
to cuttings and slips.
Yet we found something that is (perhaps) new to you and very useful:
the spray deters cattle!
Credit be given to Christine who prepared the solution, and sold it to
Patrick Mukora, who started nurseries down in Rift Valley (a.o. to use
it with Maasai to protect their water collection dam).
When our nusery in Nairobi Dam Estate was frequently damaged by cattle
herded by Maasai, we asked Patrick for advice, and surprise, he
recommended to spray the plants and perimetre with water hyacinth
solution!
(adding that common experience learns that reasoning to Maasay to keep
their animals away from our nurseries will not be effective)
The solution smells, and deters the animals, we tried it and it
works :-)
